apexart Franchise Program: open call for exhibitions
Deadline: February 29, 2016

From February 1-29, NYC's apexart will accept submissions for its Franchise Program: an opportunity to propose and produce an exhibition that takes place anywhere in the world outside of New York City. No prior curatorial experience necessary; the program creates opportunities for individuals at all career stages to organize group exhibitions focused on strong ideas.
- Submissions of up to 500 words are entered via the online form. No images, links, resumes, or supporting materials accepted; no confirmed artists necessary. WHY: apexart projects are judged by the strength of their ideas alone, not by familiar names or past accomplishments.
- Submissions are anonymized and randomized for an international jury of over 150 individuals from various professional backgrounds. WHY: Rather than a small, elite panel reviewing hundreds of proposals, we crowd-source a large, diverse jury to ensure compelling programming for a wide audience with diverse interests.
- Votes are juried and tallied by a custom computer program, which identifies the four proposals with the highest ratings. apexart does not affect these results. WHY: apexart prioritizes the use of democratic and meritocratic processes to determine its programming.
- Winners each receive an exhibition budget of up to $6,000, a location rental budget of up to $2,000, a curatorial honorarium of $2,000, and administrative support necessary to present their idea as an apexart Franchise Exhibition. WHY: Because curators and artists deserve the opportunity to effectively present their ideas and be professionally supported.
