Call for participation "Autofocus 7": the double award. VANNI eyewear's international competition for young artists and designers, under GAI aegis, consists of two separate prizes, one for an exhibition project and one for a performance
In collaboration with GAI - The Association for the Circuit of the Young Italian Artists- VANNI eyewear is sponsoring "Autofocus 7", the international competition for talented young artists and designers. Two separate awards are destined for two different artists: the brief is to devise an exhibition or a performance, both taken in the broadest sense and open to any kind of idiom or mix of idioms, with no preclusion of technique or art-form.
The winning exhibition project will receive a 1,500 euro prize-cum-purchase, and must be devised as a flexible installation fitting into the AUTOFOCUS space//VANNI showroom (downloadable map attached). It will be exhibited both as a personal, complete with catalogue, and as a partial showing at "The Others" fair, 5-8 November 2015 (www.theothersfair.com).
The performance (taken in the broadest sense and open to any kind of idiom) will receive a 500 euro production contribution, and must be designed for staging in two different locations: one at the AUTOFOCUS space//VANNI showroom, the other at "The Others" fair 2015. A critical appraisal of the performance project will appear in the catalogue that includes the exhibition project.
Theme of the competition
"Autofocus 7" styles itself open-ended - a presentation of the universe contained in the artist's eye, a personal world, vision, perception. The artist is seen as a free creative spirit, on a plane where visual art may also border on design and various artistic idioms. The exhibition project and performance will both narrate their artists' subjective dimension, featuring their individuality and what they see as the kernel of their work.
Eligible to compete
The competition is open to exhibition projects and performances by creative European artists and designers between 18 and 35 years of age residing in Italy or one of the EU member countries. The artists and their entries must conform to the participating criteria stipulated in the call.
Selection
The basic selection criteria will be quality, research and innovation. Selection will be made by art Olga Gambari, independent curator.
The exhibition project competition will have only one outright winner, though the three finalists' work will be featured in the VANNI eyewear website's on-line gallery.
There will be one outright winner for the performance.
The organisers reserve the right to show the work of one or more finalists at some later date in the year. The selection outcome will be made known via the VANNI eyewear and GAI websites by 21st September 2015.
The prize consists in:
for the exhibition project
. exhibiting the winning project at AUTOFOCUS space//VANNI showroom, Turin in November 2015, the inauguration corresponding with contemporary art night, Artissima and Contemporary Art Turin Piemonte;
. exhibition of part of the work at "The Others" (5-8 November 2015)
. a purchase-award to the amount of 1,500 euros;
. a catalogue illustrating the works on show (including the performance project), with a critical review, and a biographical profile of the winner;
. transporting and insuring the works comprising the winning project;
. accommodating the winning artist in Turin for one night at the inauguration;
. a complimentary pair of VANNI sunglasses
For the performance
. staging of the winning performance at the AUTOFOCUS space and at "The Others";
. a 500 euro contribution to staging the performance;
. a catalogue to illustrate the performance project (together with the exhibition project winner), and biographical profiles of the competition winner;
. accommodating the winning artist in Turin for the night of the performances;
. a complimentary pair of VANNI sunglasses

The file shall include:
1. a description of the exhibition project or performance on the "Autofocus 7" theme;
2. a table outlining the exhibition project or performance and including the title, technique and materials used, year of devising, and (for the exhibition project) a plan for installation in the space available for display;
3. a book illustrating the candidate's artistic output, giving full details and a photo of the artist.
Participation in the competition is free of charge.
The CD documentation will not be returned. The selecting judge's decision is final. The winning project works need to be sent properly packed in professional hard containers which can be used for returning them afterwards.
Treatment of personal data
As per art.13 of D.Lgs. 196/2003, candidates' personal data will be collected to assist the selection process. Personal data will likewise be processed by automatic means for the time strictly needed for the purpose in question. Data must be supplied so that participation eligibility may be checked. Failure to do so will result in exclusion from selection.
