Griffin Gallery calls for entries for the fifth edition of the Griffin Art Prize, a London residency and exhibition award for painting and drawing. Open to UK based artists graduated since 2009.
Designed to have a meaningful impact on the career of one emerging artist, the Griffin Art Prize provides time, accommodation, space and materials from supporting fine art brands Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris to create work for an Open Studio event above Griffin Gallery, London.
The judges for the Griffin Art Prize 2016 are: Serpentine Galleries exhibitions curator Rebecca Lewin, Lindéngruppen owner and chairman, Jenny Lindén Urnes, Griffin Gallery chief curator Becca Pelly-Fry, artist Vicki Wright.
The judges will be looking for excellence and innovation in painting and drawing. Twelve long listed artists for this year’s Prize will be announced in September and have their work featured on www.griffingallery.co.uk/GAP2016 . The judges will then select six short-listed artists to exhibit in a group show in November 2016 at Griffin Gallery, a high profile showcase opportunity visited by collectors, curators and other art world professionals.
The overall winner will be awarded a three month residency in the Studio Building, London W11 to develop new work culminating in an Open Studio event in April 2017. The residency includes: exclusive use of a spacious (32m sq.) studio, a self-contained apartment from ACAVA at 62, Hetley Road, London W12 8BB, www.acava.org/studios/building/hetley-road-studios a mentoring programme from a selected arts professional and materials of choice from supporting fine art brands Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris.
The prize is open to UK based artists practicing in painting and drawing and graduated since 2009. Artists have until 3rd July 2016 to submit their applications. There is a £15 application fee. Full details, Terms & Conditions are available at www.griffingallery.co.uk/GAP2016
