Below is the call for entries to MONO NO AWARE IX, the annual exhibition of expanded cinema showcasing sculpture, installation, durational, and performance art that incorporates the moving image on Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm, or as an altered light projection.  In 2014, the eighth annual MONO NO AWARE exhibition was mentioned in the New York Times and presented the work of 27 international artists to an audience of 800.  See festival history here: http://mononoawarefilm.com/events/

This year’s deadline for entries is October 31st 2015.  
The exhibition will take place on Friday December 4th and Saturday the 5th in Bushwick, New York.
Submission is sliding scale by donation $0-$20 (suggested) which allows MONO NO AWARE to provide travel stipends and lodging to presenting artists.  
The 2-day event is free to attend for audience members.

MONO NO AWARE is a non-profit cinema-arts organization offering year-round analog filmmaking workshops to the community teaching: Super 8mm, 16mm filmmaking, 2-D animation and 3-D puppet animation, Production for Independent Film, Hand-processing, Alternative-processing and Non-toxic-processing Techniques, Film Preservation, Handmade Emulsion, Advanced Super 16mm filmmaking and a range of special workshops led by visiting filmmakers.  As an extension of the educational initiatives, we rent analogue filmmaking equipment, make Steenbeck flat-bed editing and JK or Oxberry optical printing facilities available to the public and import/distribute film stocks.  Through our outreach program we present these same workshops at numerous universities, film festivals, and institutions throughout the US.  This year we have presented workshops at The Japan Society (Manhattan, NY) The Oak Cliff Film Festival (Dallas, TX) The Queens Museum (Queens, NY) and this August we’ll travel to the Thomas Edison National Park to conduct a re-imagining kinetoscopes workshop inside the historic Black Maria (West Orange, NJ).  MONO NO AWARE presents a monthly screening series entitled CONNECTIVITY THROUGH CINEMA with visiting filmmakers and most recently a co-presentation of a three-day retrospective ‘Super 8 Poetics’ the works of Stephanie Gray at The Anthology Film Archives.  We’ve also started a reference library with a focus on cinema history, theory and technical filmmaking publications.

Applications are now open for the 2015 RBS Bursary Awards - a unique award designed to provide a pivotal platform for ten early career artists working in three dimensions, judged to be of outstanding talent, to realise their full potential in the professional sphere.

Each year the RBS awards ten bursaries to early career artists working in three dimensions judged to be of outstanding talent. Open to Sculptors of any age and nationality, with or without formal training, working in any style or media the awards are designed to provide vital support during what for many is a difficult transition to successful professional practice. Integral to the society’s aim to promote the diverse language of contemporary sculpture, the Bursary Awards provide a platform to emerging sculptors to realise their full potential in the professional sphere. 

Over two years we showcase their talent through a launch event, two Sculpture Slam talks, a group exhibition, an award catalogue, and a dedicated Bursary Awards section on the RBS website. Bursary winners are also invited to take part in a peer to peer mentoring scheme and receive two free years of membership to the society. With membership comes access to a community of nearly 600 practising sculptors, the unique RBS fellows mentoring scheme, and opportunities to apply for residencies, awards, exhibitions, as well as to present talks. We are also currently actively seeking support to develop the Bursary Awards and enable us to offer a more concrete series of opportunities and prizes to help the ten winners establish their careers.

Applications are now open for FIRST@108 - a unique award designed to offer sculptors an opportunity to extend their practice into competing for public art commissions. The award is open to any artist working in 3 dimensions in any media who has not yet won an open (or closed) competition for a commission to create a work for a public space above the value of £15,000.

The winning sculptor is awarded £10,000 towards the cost of producing two new interlinking public artworks for the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital on the theme of Memory. Over the following six months the fabrication of the winning work is supported by the award and the winner is mentored by a team of experienced professionals - engineers, consultants and artists - to ensure the concept is delivered to the exacting standards required of work to be installed in this unique, high-profile public space. Ownership of artwork remains with the artist to keep or sell following the award period.

The In Practice program offers artists curatorial and financial support to create new work for exhibition at SculptureCenter. We invite artists to submit proposals for new projects to be presented in early 2016. Artists selected for the In Practice exhibition will receive a $250 honorarium and up to $2000 in production support. The level of production support will depend on the scope of accepted works and available funding.

SculptureCenter is a not-for-profit arts institution that takes the history and legacy of sculpture as a framework from which to consider the diverse activity taking place in the field of contemporary art. SculptureCenter's program encourages artists and audiences to explore the possibilities of sculpture and the multifarious ways in which sculpture is developing and connecting to other forms of expression. Past In Practice participants include: Michele Abeles, Fia Backström, A. K. Burns, Michael DeLucia, Aleksandra Domanovic, Essex Olivares, Brendan Fernandes, Ryan Johnson, Joanna Malinowska, Justin Matherly, Virginia Overton, Marlo Pascual, Rachel Rose, Xaviera Simmons, Valerie Snobeck, Agathe Snow, Josh Smith, and Erik Wysocan.

SculptureCenter seeks proposals that offer new ways of considering sculpture or furthering the understanding of the discipline and how it can intersect with other mediums. Artist proposals will be reviewed relative to the following criteria:
- Quality of the proposal and prior work
- Responsiveness in regards to the specific context of SculptureCenter
- Feasibility of the project

All lower-level exhibition spaces, the building exterior, the website, and projects outside of the confines of the building are available for In Practice proposals. Artists are encouraged to experiment with unconventional display and exhibition formats. Past In Practice projects have included objects, installations, performance, web-based works, institutional interventions, mobile apps, multiples, and publications. Building images and floorplans may be downloaded from our website, as well as examples of previous works presented through the program. The galleries will be closed for installation April 14-May 2. From May 3-June 15, artists may make site visits during regular exhibition hours. There are no geographic eligibility requirements, but the budget does not provide for travel or accommodation costs.

SculptureCenter curatorial staff and a select advisory committee of artists, curators, and critics will conduct a preliminary review of proposals. A limited number of artists will be contacted for further information and/or studio visits during the fall. Submitting artists will be notified by email by Fall 2015. No calls please.

The International Sculpture Center (ISC) is seeking panel proposals for the 25th International Sculpture Conference: New Frontiers in Sculpture in Phoenix, Arizona. Over 300 sculpture enthusiasts from around the world will gather this November 4-7, 2015 for engaging panel discussions, peer networking, and exciting cultural events surrounding topics in contemporary sculpture. 

Submissions must be 200 words and include a clear but brief statement of the panel objective.

Panel topics will include:  Creative Placemaking Art Making in Rural and Urban Communities Art on the Borders Socially Engaged Art Practice Desert as Site: New Earthworks Multi-Disciplinary Artist Led Investigations Art in Unknown Places Arcology, Architecture, and an Exploration in Utopias Other topics in contemporary sculpture 

The abstract submission deadline is March 1, 2015.

All accepted submissions will be notified by May 2015.

Venice Institute of Contemporary Art (ViCA) and Porch Gallery Present "Water Works II" an International Juried Exhibition (First Deadline January 19) 

Following on the acclaim and success of their recent Water Works show, The Venice Institute of Contemporary Art (ViCA) and the Porch Gallery Ojai present Water Works II, an international juried exhibition from May 2 through June 5, 2015, broadly focused on the myriad issues related to water - from it's beauty, to its scarcity, to it's importance to human life, the politics of water, to environmental issues and beyond.

Jurors will be Juri Koll, Director of the Venice Institute of Contemporary Art, Lisa Casoni and Heather Stobo, Directors of The Porch Gallery, Ojai, Peter Frank, renowned critic/curator, and John Yau, renowned art critic and writer.  Art will be accepted in all media, including sculpture.

A catalog will be published for the show.

In addition, this Spring, there will be 3 commissioned sculptures which will be installed at the Besant Hill School/Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts and Farmer and the Cook in their fields and farms who have experienced the devastating drought that is taking place all over California right now. There will be tours offered to view the sculptures and learn about the issue from the community. 

As Art critic Shana Nys Dambrot wrote for the first Water Works catalog: 

"Water is an emblem of fluidity in the material world..Its various naturally occurring and familiar manmade forms -- rivers, lakes, oceans; rain, dew, puddles; swimming pools, faucets, fountains; waterfalls, brooks, tall cold glasses to drink -- and its various states of calm, agitation, storminess, damming-up; cleanliness, darkness, dirtiness, purity; scarcity, gentleness, power, depth, and danger indicate a range of emotions from fear to fertility, inspiration, exuberance, soaring serenity, and existential unrest. In a dream, these factors reveal an understanding of one's basic state of being."

2015 Artist Fellowships - Franconia Sculpture Park, MN, USA

Located on 43-acres in the scenic St. Croix River Valley, 45 miles northeast of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, USA. Franconia offers a place where artists live, create, and exhibit three-dimensional artwork all in one location. Artists push themselves to achieve new visions at Franconia, beyond what they ever thought was possible. Each artist undergoes a transformation, leaving with a renewed focus, new skills, and lifelong connections.

Artists working in three-dimensions are invited to submit ambitious project proposals for the FSP/Jerome Fellowship program (open to MN & NYC artists) or the Open Studio Fellowship Program (open to US artists). Sculpture, site-specific, multi-media, and installation work are considered. Artists are in residence at Franconia during their fellowship. Residencies start as early as April 1, 2015, lasting a minimum of 4 weeks and up to 3 months depending on the nature of the project. Installation for 2015 projects must be complete by September 12, 2015. Up to 10 artists or artist teams will be awarded funding support, ranging from $3,500 to $5,000, to create and exhibit new work in a public outdoor setting.

International Sculpture Symposium at Assens Shipyard, Denmark

This open call is for all professional sculptors working in the medium of iron.

Assens Shipyard has generously put its wealth of workshop spaces, tools and materials at the disposal of the symposium, offering the best possible facilities for sculptors working with iron.

Assens Arts Council supports art in the Municipality of Assens through its advisory capacity and by organising events and activities such as symposium projects, initiatives for art in the public sphere and workshops.

Assens Arts Council consists of three professional artists, an architect, one associate has an art professional background, the head of culture for the Municipality of Assens, and a secretary.

Discipline: Iron sculpture
Number of participants: 6 iron sculptors (2 Danish and 4 international artists)
Location: Assens Shipyard
Drafts/sketches: Applicants are requested to include sketches of their planned works, including approximate measurements.
Tools: Applicants must include a list of the tools they will require for their project.
Materials: Materials will be supplied by Assens Shipyard to a maximum value of DKK 10,000 (incl. VAT) equating to approx. 1000 kg iron per participant.

NB: There is a wide variety of materials available at Assens Shipyard.
Scrap iron will be freely available.
Practical qualifications: In principle, all artists will be expected to be capable of working unassisted. Other limited assistance of a practical nature will offered.
Assistants: To a limited degree, qualified assistants will be on hand to support the artists with their work.

MARK TANNER SCULPTURE AWARD

The Mark Tanner Sculpture Award is unique in its combination of offering both financial support towards the production of new work and a solo exhibition to an exceptional emerging sculptor. We seek to reward outstanding and innovative practice in the field of sculpture and are particularly interested in work that demonstrates a commitment to process and materials.

There is no age limit, applicants will be judged on the quality of their work and the ability of the award to make beneficial impact on their practice and future development.

The financial award to assist in the production of a new body of work is £8,000, made in three payments over the course of the year, at the end of which there will be a solo exhibition at Standpoint Gallery.
