Following on from the incredible success of last years open call, we are proud to announce Uncertain States Open Call 2016. Its aim, as ever, is to celebrate the very best in Contemporary British Photography. The call is open to anyone (aged 18 or over on the 12th July 2016) who is a practicing photographer or lens-based artist residing in the UK.
UCS Open Call 2016 is a unique opportunity to have your work viewed by a diverse selection panel comprising Shoair Mavlian, photography curator Tate Modern, Joy Gregory artist and educator, Sue Steward, curator, critic and writer, James Russell Cant artist and lecturer, Bob and Roberta Smith, artist, writer, author, musician, art education advocate,Cathy Lomax ,Transition Gallery, Johanna Neurath, Design Director Thames & Hudson, Susan Derges, photographic artist and Uncertain States.
The nine chosen artists will be exhibited in Arts Pavilion, Mile End London, in November 2016. Each judge will select an individual artist and offer the reasons why the work has inspired them. The selected work will also be published in a special edition of the Uncertain States broadsheet, which is available in major galleries and institutions nationwide, from November 2016 until February 2017. We aim to bring together and showcase the very best of contemporary photography being produced in the United Kingdom today from emerging and established artists inclusive of all genres.

Uncertain States is a lens-based, artist-led project, set up to promote critical visual dialogue. Monthly talks, a quarterly broadsheet and exhibitions enable peers and other artists to share and discuss the creative process
