El Museo’s Artist Residency: BACK IN FIVE MINUTES
Deadline: February 21, 2014
Calling all artists of Puerto Rican, Latin American, Latin, or Caribbean descent living in New York City’s metropolitan area! Become part of El Museo’s Artist Residency: BACK IN FIVE MINUTES, a program aimed at providing artists’ studio space within our galleries. Selected participants, one per session, will need to generate a new body of work within an area customarily known for the installation of finished works of art. BACK IN FIVE MINUTES allows for any performative elements informing the artistic process and practice to surface, as well as the on-going presence of the resident artist in the gallery, thereby becoming an artwork in and of itself. The artist will work in one of El Museo’s public gallery spaces; interaction between the public and the artist will be a key component of this residency.
Artist Residency: BACK IN FIVE MINUTES, is a part of Office Hours (OH), a multi-dimensional project by artist Nicolas Dumit Estevez in collaboration with El Museo del Barrio’s staff, artists, and audiences.
Application Guidelines:
Open to artists of Puerto Rican, Latin American, Latin, or Caribbean descent living in the greater NYC metropolitan region. Artists are expected to use their studio for a minimum of fifteen hours per week. Studio is ONLY available Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11AM to 6PM. The public will have access to the studio during these open hours (security will also be in the galleries during these hours) and will be able to see artists as they are working.

1. A clear project proposal (150 words) indicating what you would like to do during the residency and how your work may benefit from working in the specific space allocated for the residency.
