TJ Foundation Acquisition Campaign

ACQUISITION CAMPAIGN “ART IS LIVE”

The TJ Foundation opens a new acquisitions campaign, dedicated to contemporary artists’ works created during 2012. All acquisitions will be selected by the Foundation only among the artworks subjected to evaluation. Proposal terms of artworks should follow the ways and times indicated below.

Acquisitions
The acquisitions are fully managed by the Foundation. The ownership of the acquired works must be certified to the Foundation by the artists, institutions or galleries at the time of payment for the works. The estimated value of works acquisition must be indicated directly by the proponents.

Candidatures
The evaluation proposals can be received from artists, groups of artists, organizations, private galleries and public institutions. It’s necessary that the proposed works are owned by the proposers.
The works must have been completed not before 2012.
The works must belong to the artists living at the time of nomination.
The works must belong to the artists who in their careers have already exhibited at least
in one personal or collective exhibition.

Type of artworks
The TJ Art Foundation will evaluate all kinds of artworks, including video, installations and performances. The artists and group of artist can propose until 10 different artworks.
The institutions and the galleries can propose until 3 artists, each one with up to 10 different artworks.

Dates
The deadline for submission of acquisition proposals is April 30, 2013.
The Foundation will carry out the evaluation and selection of the works to be acquired by June 30, 2013.

Balaclava is a new exclusive online gallery dedicated to the exhibiting of contemporary artwork that only exists (or was recorded/lives on) in digital format. This can take the form of many different guises: video, photography, animation, audio, digital drawings or paintings etc. It also could include photographs of work, which was made but has now been dismantled (never to be re-made); destroyed, lost or damaged, and digital evidence of any other temporary interventions of any kind.  

Over the next year we will programme and present a series of solo shows. This call out will be for the first 3 months. The selected artists (either individuals or collaborations) will get exclusive space in our online gallery for an exhibition of usually around two weeks, a press release, online promotion via social networks and at the end of the exhibition the details will be added to our archive.  

Just to reiterate - we are looking for work, which only exists, in digital format. 

To apply please send us up to 5 jpeg images of the work, your CV, and a short statement about your practice (approx 250 words). In this statement please include details of the use of technology in your practice. If you are applying with time based work please send us the links where these can be looked at online.

An opportunity to distribute your work internationally and earn royalties whilst doing so!  Mango Salute is a customised greeting card business with a web-to-print capacity which is currently under construction and will be going live in the not to distant future.  

Mango Salute will provide individuals and organisations the opportunity to create, design and personalize (with an extremely enhanced editing application) their own greeting cards and other stationary which we will then proceed to print and mail on their behalf. Cards will be printed in various locations around the globe.

Henry Moore Institute Research Fellowships

The Henry Moore Institute is a world-recognised centre for the study of sculpture in the heart of Leeds. An award-winning exhibitions venue, research centre, library and sculpture archive, the Institute hosts a year-round programme of exhibitions, conferences and lectures, as well as developing research and publications, to expand the understanding and scholarship of historical and contemporary sculpture.

Research Fellowships are intended for artists, scholars and curators, working on historic and contemporary sculpture using the Institute’s library, archive of sculptors’ papers and the collection of Leeds Art Gallery. Up to 4 fellows will be given the opportunity to spend a month in Leeds to develop their own research. With access to our resources and an on-going dialogue with the Institute staff, fellows are free to pursue their own interests in a supportive and stimulating environment.

The ICI Berlin Institute for Cultural Inquiry announces six post-doctoral fellowships on the topic 'Constituting Wholes' within the core project 'Tension/Spannung'.

Wholes are said to be more than the sum of their parts. This ‘more’ contains both a promise and a threat. When different elements – which might also be individuals, cultures, disciplines or methods – form a whole, they not only join forces, but also generate a surplus from which the parts can also benefit. Being part of a whole is a way to acquire meaning and to extend beyond one’s limited existence; and having a part in the whole is to have an enlarged agency. But wholes are also more powerful than the sum of their parts. Wholes constitute their parts, they determine what is a part and what is apart, what can become a part and which parts have no part. Even if parts therefore may not be said to pre-exist the whole, there may still be something in them that exceeds being a part – if only the possibility of being part of a different whole

The ICI Berlin invites scholars from all disciplines to engage in a joint exploration of the critical potential and ambivalent function of wholeness and related notions. We especially welcome applications from individuals who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in scholarly research.

The productive exchange between fellows is a central aim of the Institute. Applicants should be interested in a theoretical reflection upon the conceptual and intellectual basis of their projects and in discussing it with fellows from other disciplines. In particular, fellows will be expected to participate in the weekly colloquia, bi-weekly informal meetings, and other activities of the Institute and to be resident in Berlin for the duration of the fellowship.

The fellowships announced are for the academic year 2013-14 only (16 September – 18 July) and not extendable (as the ICI Berlin expects to begin a new core project in 2014). There is no age limit, but applicants should have obtained their PhD within ten years of the date of appointment or have fulfilled all requirements for receiving their PhD by 1 July 2013. Stipends range from EUR 1650 to 1850 per month.

Despite its reputation for respecting and often including works of all genres and approaches, including realism, Manifest has never produced an exhibit designed to survey such works exclusively. Usually the gallery's exhibits and book projects include a wide range of types of works. Some have even focused solely on abstraction, or concept-based works. With this we figured it is about time, now in our ninth season, that we see what comes from a straight-up call for works of realism in any media.

What is realism? In the context of this call it is work which provides an illusionistic or highly descriptive representation of some visible subject. Whether that be by painting, drawing, sculpture, or other media, it is nevertheless closely aligned to what the eye sees - tangible subject matter, with little distortion, subjective interpretation, or other manipulation of visible 'facts.' This is not to say works cannot nor should not have content, meaning, and drama, nor that they cannot include other non-realistic components. In fact, the 'real' that is depicted could be invented. The goal however is to convince the viewer by way of the art that the work represents something that exists outside the art itself.

Within the genre of realism one finds subcategories of photo-realism, hyper-realism, and various other nuanced versions of the practice. Manifest announces this broad call in order to survey how contemporary artists approach such work, possibly in unexpected ways, and to present the public with a compelling exhibition, and a view into the relevance of making things real.

This exhibit will occupy two gallery spaces at Manifest from January 25 through February 22, 2013 and will be accompanied by a full color catalog documenting the included works.

Eligibility: HIGH (realism's realism) is open to everyone. Professionals as well as students are encouraged to enter. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works of art.

Media: Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional genre and media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, mixed media, video, etc. The only limiting factor is that works must qualify as 'realism.'

Talents 2013 - C/O Berlin

Talents is an international competition held annually. The jury of professional judges selects four photographers and four art critics each year from the submitted entries. Their work is presented in four solo exhibitions at C/O Berlin over the course of the year and at the Goethe Institute in New York City. Each solo exhibition is accompanied by a publication in which images and text enter into dialogue: talented young artists present themselves and their projects to a broad public, open up their work for discussion, and thus create a public.

In 2013, the Talents series will be dedicated to the theme of memories. A dominant feature of the medium of photography is to freeze a moment and in this way record it, making it a perfect carrier for memories of external events. This also means that photographs have the function of giving something meaning: because to us, only those things that have been focused on by photography seem worth recalling. The transience of a moment is captured for eternity and for us seems to confirm that something occurred exactly in this way at that time. Yet how reliable is photography in conveying recollections? If we look more closely, the medium of photography is just as fluid, blurred and relative as our own perception. It only depicts a small section of reality, the surface of an event or occurrence so to speak, and in this way triggers mental replication. As material memorial objects, photographs construe individual and collective memories, constantly superimpose one another – or create obstacles by causing us to imagine the wrong thing. With the endless flood of images resulting from the development of technical media and the increasing digitalization of photographic archives, today the question arises more strongly than ever: in what way do we remember and in what way can photography conserve memories. An artistic approach to photographic archives, found footage or associative processes could also be observed more frequently in the last few years. Whether conceptually, playfully or scientifically, whether through photography or film – how can the aspect of memory be broached by these forms of media? How can the theme “memory” be realized photographically and how can the process of recollection be artistically challenged and visualized?

 

Photographers and art critics up to the age of 35 can apply.

Photographers can submit up to 15 samples of their work in print form – maximal size DIN A4, no originals.

This call for entries is open for proposals which will mark the Museum’s presence in its neighbourhood, abandoning traditional commemorative approaches and permanent sculptural solutions, transforming ‘passive’ narratives into physical and symbolic presence, by concentrating on current social issues and relations or connecting with everyday life practice on the borderline between public and private, facts and fiction.

In the sense of media, the project supports performative and participatory works, urban interventions and outdoor installations whose audience – users or participants – cannot be predetermined. What is required: to explore approaches which use the public space to open and address the public which does not belong to the standard circuit of art events, but includes passers-by, neighbours, current visitors of streets and squares. By treating physical and symbolic distances between the artist / artwork and different ‘publics’.
