The Griffin Art Prize is an exciting new award for painting and drawing, open to UK based emerging artists, graduated since 2005.
Ten short-listed artists will be included in a showcase exhibition at London’s Griffin Gallery in November 2012. Accompanied by a catalogue, this high-profile group show will be seen by collectors, curators and other art world professionals.
The overall winner will be awarded a six month working residency in The Studio Building, London W.11, to develop an individual exhibition for the Griffin Gallery in September 2013.
A selection panel will choose the shortlist and winner of the Griffin Art Prize 2012:
Ian Davenport is an internationally renowned painter, shortlisted for The Turner Prize in 1991.
Zavier Ellis is director of the gallery CHARLIE SMITH London. He is co-founder of ‘The Future Can Wait’, a museum scale exhibition of emerging artists organized in partnership with the Saatchi Gallery.
Jenny Lindén Urnes is chair of the jury for the Beckers Art Award. Established in 1987, this award been given to several of Sweden's most innovative and exciting young artists.
Deborah Orr is an award-winning journalist currently writing for the Guardian newspaper. Deborah recently contributed an essay to the catalogue of Sarah Lucas’ major retrospective at the Henry Moore Foundation.
Allia Rizvi, representing leading fine art materials brands Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris, which are supporting the launch of the Griffin Art Prize and will supply the winner with materials, comments:‘We have a long-term commitment to supporting new and emerging talent in painting and drawing, and this new award is a really positive development for supporting artists of the future.’
Following the announcement of the winner of the Griffin Art Prize 2012 in November, the winning artist will commence their six month working residency in The Studio Building, London W.11, on the same floor Innovation and Development is based, giving the winning artist direct access to the technique and science behind fine art materials.
