Al-Mahatta Gallery announces a call for artists for its third annual International Artists Workshop residency project, from September 2nd until September 16th. 2011. Al-Mahatta Gallery welcomes applications from artists working in all disciplines.
Al-Mahatta Gallery is a non-governmental- not-for-profit organisation founded in July 2008 as an independent voluntary youth initiative, set up by a group of young artists, in Ramallah City, Palestine. This initiative aims to create the first professional exhibition space for visual arts in Ramallah, offering an opportunity for both local and international artists to engage with the local Palestinian audience through the exhibition of their work in a contemporary and professional manner.
Workshop Description
Al-Mahatta International Workshop is an artist-initiated project proposed by artists in Al-Mahatta Gallery. The two-week workshop is part of the Triangle Arts Trust Network of workshops currently active in 40 countries. The workshop is process oriented, supports experimentation in all media and is targeted
at emerging to mid career artists in all fields; encouraging contemporary work in painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, video, performance and sound. The workshop will take place in Al-Far’a Refugee Camp, about 17 kilometers away from the Nablus City. The residencies and work spaces are set in the Activity Center of the Camp. 25 artists will be brought together practicing in a wide variety of media, to work among each other, and share ideas and methods for a period of two weeks in the Camp.
At the end of the two weeks, in addition to participation in conducting art workshops for the kids in the area. The workshop will host an Open Day which will invite in the local public, artists, and critics to celebrate the developments and results of the workshop.
* The Triangle Arts Trust, established in 1982 by Robert Loder and Anthony Caro, is organized as a network of artist-led workshops that encourages experimentation, and cross-media exchange.

Financial conditions
The workshop will provide the successful candidates with full lodging and food,
working space, local transportation and a small material stipend. Selected artists shall
have the ability to cover their travel expenses to and from Al-Far’a Camp.
Procedure for applications and deadline
All candidates must apply using the application form and submit all the required documents listed in the form. The completed application forms and required documents should be sent by e-mail to

Time based work, such as performance, video, or sound can be sent by DVD by mail to

Work or material sent by mail cannot be returned back by mail.
Applications and required documents must be returned to Al-Mahatta Gallery by July 15th, 2011. Late applications cannot be reviewed. Successful candidates will be informed by August 1st, 2011, the latest, and are expected to confirm their participation by no later than August 10th, 2011.
