Call for Sculpture Artists
Deadline: December 01, 2010
Twenty artists are selected each year to receive a $2,000 stipend to help pay their residency expenses. The selection is made by the Sculpture Space Review Committee and a rotating guest panelist. Artists are notified in March of the panel's decision. Primary criteria are quality, originality, and potential for growth. Non-New York artists pay a nominal fee toward housing. Free housing and $100 transportation stipend are available for New York State artists.
Artists are asked to credit/acknowledge Sculpture Space when the work that they make here is subsequently exhibited or published, and to provide professional quality images of their work for our Web site, archives and publications.
Artists are scheduled for 11 months (September - August, excluding December) with no more than four artists in residence at any one time. Artists are expected to stay for a full two months, and have access to the studio 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Artists are responsible for their own materials, specialized tools, fees for work done outside the premises, and for an assistant should they require one. Residents typically spend approximately $1,000 per month on materials and expenses. A basic command of the English language is necessary. Bicycles are available and recently a local car dealership generously loaned Sculpture Space a Volvo station wagon, shared by the resident artists.
