Annual Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary, UK
Deadline: 7 September 2009
£5000 bursary and residency at Spike Island, Bristol, UK
Shape is asking for people to apply for its annual bursary for deaf and disabled artists working in the visual arts. We will give an artist £5000 and a supported residency at a well known artist studio called Spike Island.
The bursary was established to remember artist Adam Reynolds by Shape and Adam's friends and family. The money gives artists time, space and support to develop their creative work without pressure to deliver a project.
We choose the artist in a competition, by looking at their work and how they say they would use the money and the residency in the studio to develop their creative work. Anyone can apply for the bursary, as long as they are a disabled person who is also an artist.
Each year, Shape gives the winning artist:
- £5,000 - this could be used for anything from paying for living expenses during the residency to buying or hiring equipment.
- A residency at an artist studio (this year it’s Spike Island in Bristol)
- Advice and support from a gallery
- Additional support and advice from Shape, a disability-led arts organisation working to improve access to the arts for disabled people
