Jerwood Sculpture Prize
Deadline : 31 October, 2008
Now in its fifth year, the Jerwood Sculpture Prize is a major commissioning award that continues to support and nurture talented sculptors creating outdoor work. Since its launch in 2001, the Prize has built a strong reputation for quality and innovation and the Jerwood Charitable Foundation has been
delighted by the success of the first four commissions from Benedict Carpenter, Gereon Krebber, Judith Dean and Juliet Haysom. The 2008 Prize will once again see a commission that will become part of the Jerwood Sculpture collection at Ragley, Alcester, Warwickshire.
•The Jerwood Sculpture Prize is a national commissioning prize of £25,000 that will take the form of a commission for a piece of outdoor sculpture that will become part of the Jerwood Sculpture collection at Ragley, Alcester, Warwickshire. The Prize will be awarded as published and not divided between joint winners.
•The Prize is open to anyone who is within fifteen years of graduation from a recognised school of art AND who is either a British citizen, a citizen of the Irish Republic, or a sculptor who has lived or worked in the United Kingdom for at least the last three years.
•The Prize will be awarded to the sculptor whose initial proposal, short listed commissioned maquette, detailed submission and budget, in the opinion of the Judges, demonstrates excellence and originality in the skill of outdoor sculpture.
•The final commissioned work must be of a size that will be in scale with, and suitable for, a large outdoor park landscape and of a material that will withstand the elements indefinitely. The siting of the commissioned work at Ragley will be the responsibility of the Jerwood Sculpture Curator.
