Welcome everyone!

The 9th Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale (GICB), hosted by Gyeonggi Province and organized by the Korea Ceramic Foundation, has begun accepting applications for entries to the International Competition.

The International Competition of GICB will take place in 2017. Founded in 2001 to suggest the direction and visions for the future of world ceramics, the International Competition of GICB is the world's most prestigious international event for ceramic art. It is a gateway for emerging artists and a venue to showcase the full diversity of ceramic art and its future values. Both young, promising artists and established artists are encouraged to participate and show the world their tremendous creativity, artistry, and experimentation.

The International Competition 2017 calls for artworks that mirror the modern trends and point to the future of ceramic arts. We welcome artworks that redefine the essence of ceramics by exploring the spirit, values, forms, and techniques of traditional ceramic art; innovative, expressive works that attempt a reinterpretation of the values of traditional ceramic art; and innovative, expressive works that cross genres.

Benefits for the Winners of the International Competition

1. Exhibition
· From the entries that passed the first preliminary round, the final prize winners (exhibition works) will be selected during the second-round examination, and the prize-winning artworks will be exhibited during at Icheon World Ceramic Center from April 22 (Sat) to October 9 (Mon), 2017.
· The grand prize winner will be invited to the GICB2019 solo exhibition funded by KOCEF.
· The winning artworks (bronze prize and above) will become part of the Korea Ceramic Foundation’s collection, being granted the opportunity to be displayed in its permanent exhibition in the future.

3. Catalogue
· All prize-winning artworks (exhibited artworks) will be included in the catalogue of the International Competition.
* Contents: Images of the artworks, artist statements, artist profiles, critics from jury members, etc.

4. Invitation
· The grand prize and gold prize winners will be invited to the official opening ceremony of the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale and other related programs such as the gallery talk.
· A round-trip transportation costs and hotel expenses (two nights and three days) will be provided.
* If a selected entry is done by a group, only one individual representing the group will be invited.

5. Promotion
The Korea Ceramic Foundation will regularly promote the prize-winning artworks (exhibited artworks) of the International Competition. The artworks will be promoted to the international community via art-related magazines and media as well as websites and social networking channels.

INVITATIONAL SOLO EXHIBITION – NEIL BROWNSWORD: FACTORY

National Treasure by British artist Neil Brownsword, was unanimous as the piece seemed to pinpoint many key issues related to contemporary ceramics today. National Treasure addressed the subject of interrogating the ceramic manufacturing histories and post-industrial landscape of Stoke-on Trent, a world renowned ceramic capital that has experienced a significant decline in recent decades.

The Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2017 will held from April 22 to May 28, 2017 and the grand prize winner will be invited during the period. It focuses on the displacement of intangible cultural heritage in North Staffordshire’s ceramics industry. Artworks attempts to raise questions surrounding the value and relevance of inter-generational skills. It will raise greater awareness of an increasingly threatened intangible cultural heritage which has supported a local economy for nearly 300 years.

Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2017 (GICB2017) INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION calls for artists from October 4 to 31, 2016 via online (ic.gicb.kr). The Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts welcomes your application to participate in one of its 22 courses. Special features this year are topical positions in painting (Varda Caivano, Melissa Gordon), sculpture and installation (Nora Schultz), as well as unusual and rarely-taught artistic techniques such as miniature painting (Imran Qureshi), ceramics as a sculptural medium (Aaron Angell) and stone sculpture (Andreas Lolis). Summer Academy also focuses on current questions in curatorial theory and praxis (Alya Sebti and Joanna Warsza) as well as on writing about art (Kimberly Bradley).

The Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts, founded in 1953 by Oskar Kokoschka as the “School of Vision”, in Hohensalzburg Fortress, is the oldest of its kind in Europe. Every year, some 300 participants from more than 50 countries attend some 20 courses.

Application
All prospective participants must apply for acceptance. On the basis of the submitted dossier, the teaching artists select participants. The fees are between € 450.- and € 1,200.-, depending on the duration of the course. Students are entitled to a reduced fee. All applications received by 2 May 2016 will be treated equally. Later applications are welcome, and will be processed in the order received, according to vacancies in the courses.

Artists around the world are invited to take part in the international competition organized by the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2015 for the spring of next year.

The International Competition of GICBiennale 2015 whole-heartedly welcomes works by artists that re-interpret traditional values of ceramics in truly unique ways, breaking away from the conventional dichotomy of ceramics as design and ceramics as art.  Ceramic artists are pushing the boundaries of ceramics ever outward, and the boundary between ceramics as design and ceramics as art is increasingly becoming blurred.  This competition will focus on the possibilities for ceramic art to expand its territory by discovering artworks of mixed materials and made by techniques of other genres and ceramics fused with other genres of art, not to mention the values inherent to ceramics.

The International Competition of GICBiennale 2015 will be an opportunity to display your imagination and creativity to the fullest.  Come and join this competition that will open the future of ceramics, presenting diverse issues facing us today including political, societal, religious, cultural, and environmental issues along with aesthetic values.

In previous competition, we had 1,875 artists from 71 countries who submitted 3,362 artworks. This competition will focus on the possibilities for ceramic art to expand from its territory. 

The Grands Prize will receive $48,100 with solo exhibition opportunity for GICB 2017.

aspex’s competition for craft becomes an annual fixture.

Following the success of the inaugural competition last year, aspex seeks emerging artists, designers and makers working in all media for its open submission exhibition CRAFT EMERGENCY. This is an international opportunity, and aspex are looking for applications from anyone who considers themselves to be an emerging artist.

A maximum of 15 artists will be selected for a group show, which will open in October 2014. During this exhibition a winner will be chosen to receive the prize of a solo exhibition at aspex in 2016.

This is aspex’s second CRAFT EMERGENCY. Thomas Appleton was the winner of the inaugural competition in 2013 and he will be having a solo show of his work in the main space at aspex in the summer of 2015.  

The selectors are: Annabelle Campbell, Head of Exhibitions & Collections, Crafts Council; Dr Outi Remes, Director, New Ashgate Gallery; Sophie Woodrow, artist and Joanne Bushnell, Director, aspex.

Joanne Bushnell, Director of aspex said “Last year, we felt we needed to run an dedicated open submission competition for contemporary craft alongside our long running EMERGENCY series. We were delighted by the response and found a deserved winner in Thomas Appleton, and so we decided that CRAFT EMERGENCY should become an annual event in our efforts to help support emerging artists”.

The CRAFT EMERGENCY submission deadline is Friday 5 September 2014, and the exhibition will run from 10 October 2014 – 4 January 2015.

The Islington Contemporary Art & Design Fair will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in October. Since it launched in 2004, Candid Arts has helped provide a platform for established and emerging artists to showcase their work in one of the largest independent contemporary art spaces in central London with the opportunity to sell directly to the general public.

The next event will take place during October at the Candid Galleries over four weekends, each featuring different creative disciplines (see below). The exhibitions will run from Saturday to Sunday with a private view on the Friday evening.

The Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD) is committed to an academic studio-based education for students in fine art, design, craft and digital media. The result is a rigorous studio program, which produces critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and artists with well-defined practices. The Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD) welcomes applications for the following position commencing in the fall semester of the 2013-2014 academic year: 

Visiting Artist (VA)/Instructor/Researcher – Ceramics 

This is a nine (9) month appointment over two (2) terms commencing August 20, 2013 to May 31, 2014.  To complement existing instructional resources, this position will instruct four (4) six (6) hour-long studio courses at all levels of the undergraduate BFA in Ceramics program. The successful candidate will receive a stipend of $16,000.00 towards research and studio practice and will be required to report and present on research activities as well as mount an exhibition of their studio practice and research at the college. 

Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will have an MFA or an equivalent degree or combination of education and professional experience in ceramics, previous teaching experience, a professional exhibition record as a ceramist, excellent technical skills and a wide knowledge of all aspects of the discipline, with a particular regard for the international ceramics profession. Applicants with a studio practice and teaching experience in pottery are particularly sought for this academic year. 

The successful candidate will be community-oriented; comfortable interacting with students, faculty, artists, and the public; and demonstrate a balanced approach between research, practice, and pedagogy. The incumbent will be expected to participate in Ceramics program activities and administrative workload.

It is a big opportunity for young artists to present their works to professional artists, editors, other experts, and general public at one of the important ceramic biennale. GICB 2013 is looking for the LECTURES during the biennale (Sept. 28 – Nov. 17, 2013)! We would like to give artists an opportunity to introduce his or her art world as a way of communicating with the general public. We welcome not only artists but also other experts such as critics, journalists, historian, curators, and etc. Selected artists will have a change to give a lecture on Saturday during biennale, 14:00-16:30 at Icheon Toyasium Seminar Hall. International Exhibition and Prize – NordArt 2012, Germany

NordArt is one of Northern Europe largest annual contemporary art exhibitions. The exhibition in summer 2011 displays the work of 250 artists from 55 countries.

The NordArt exhibition is organised by the non-profit initiative 'Kunstwerk Carlshütte' and is open to all visual art media.

The unique exhibition area consists of the old foundry building 'Carlshütte' with an area of 22.000 sqm and the adjacent sculpture park with over 80.000 sqm.

Preceding the exhibition the international NordArt-Symposium takes places bringing together different generations of artists and offering them the opportunity to create large-scale works. All works created remain property of the artist.

Each year one artist is awarded with the NordArt-Prize, worth 10.000 Euro, with the aim to support the art and culture scene. In addition a Public Choice Award, worth 1000 Euro is awarded. The winners are invited to participate in the following year.
