City of Carouge Ceramics Competition

The City of Carouge (Geneva, Switzerland) organizes an open biennial competition in ceramics open to all creators. The City of Carouge 2011 Prize will be awarded in the amount of 10’000 Swiss francs (approximately 7’000€). Other awards include the Bruckner Foundation Prize for the Advancement of Ceramics in the amount of 2’000 Swiss francs (approximately 1’400€) and a prize awarded by the Swiss Ceramics Association of 1’000 Swiss francs (approximately 700€).
The subject of the 2011 competition is a box with its lid, the container may have various purposes and can be of different dimensions, the container and the lid must be part of the same set.

Competitors may present one entry each, of no more than one set, of which he or she must be the creator. The object must be an original and recently created work. The work must be in ceramics; the use of lava, cement or any other material is not acceptable.
The object may be incised, stamped, enamelled, engraved or painted.
In order to maintain anonymity, the object should bear no signature or distinctive mark.
The maximum dimension (length, width, height or diameter) of the object should not exceed 40 cm.

Collective work presented by two or more creators (ceramists and/or designers) is acceptable. This however, must be clearly stipulated on the application form, with the names of all the artists involved.

For millennia people have made things out of burnt earth. From bowls and jars essential for preserving foods to ensure survival, to written documents and official seals, to talismans of devotion for various deities and other ritualistic purposes. Ancient kilns were one of humanity's earliest forms of factory-based mass-production. Today the role of fired earth persists in both old and new ways.

FIRED is an invitation for artists to submit works that in some way represent the use of the medium of ceramics. There is no other thematic restriction, and our jury fully expects to consider a range of types of work, from the very traditional to highly unexpected 'contemporary' interpretations of the medium.

Gyeonggi International Ceramix Biennale 2011 International Competition calls for artists from April 1 to May 31, 2011.

The Korea Ceramic Foundation (KOCEF) would like to announce that the Gyeonggi International Ceramix Biennale 2011, which will be held for 30 days from September 24, 2011. The International Competition, one of the main parts of the biennale, has been a dynamic forum where the latest issues facing contemporary ceramics are explored since 2001. In the previous competition in 2009, we received big attention the world over; 1,726 artists from 70 countries submitted 3,196 artworks.

International Competition 2011 - Open to ceramic artists the world over.
Works in collaboration with other genres are all welcome but the majority of the works should be ceramic. The winners of the competition will receive the large cash prizes.

Submission of Images for Preliminary Screening, from April 1 to May 31, 2011

Digital images of the work, minimum 1,100 pixels wide in jpeg format are necessary. A single entry should be – when displayed – within these specified dimensions: 250cm (width); 250cm (depth); 250cm (height).

Submission of Actual Works for Final Selection, from July 21 to August 15, 2011.
At the final selection, all prizewinners will be determined. All entries that make it to the final round of screening may not be awarded. In this case, these works will be returned by KOCEF.

You can make your project happen at the International Ceramics Festival 1st- 3rd July 2011 Submit a proposal for a project that must be linked to ceramics or clay in some way, to take place at the International Ceramics Festival Aberystwyth 1 - 3 July 2011; past Student Award winners have included spectacular firings, participatory events and live performance. Proposals are welcomed from individuals or groups and the project is open to students from abroad as well as the UK. A fee of £550 will be awarded to the winning entry plus the cost of materials required (up to £500).

Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramic Award, Australia

Entries for the new award, The Sidney Myer Fund Australian Ceramic Art Award, are now open for both Australian and International ceramic artists. With an expansion to $55,000 in prize monies, the new award confirms its place as the premier Australian/International acquisitive art award.

With the hindsight of hosting ten international awards in its previous guise, the gallery has made a number of significant changes. These changes are intended to provide better career development opportunities for Australian ceramicists, more strategic collecting for the gallery, and a greater depth to the exhibition and associated publishing.

There will be three recipients of the award, each of whom will receive a significant stipend to produce a body of work for exhibition, on the understanding that the gallery will select one work for its collection. Costs associated with the exhibition will be borne by the gallery, including freight and the production of a fully illustrated catalogue. The gallery will also pay airfares and accommodation for recipient artists to attend the opening event and present at the associated seminar.

There will be six months between the announcement of award recipients and the delivery of works to the gallery.

Recipients will be selected under the following categories;

Australian Artist AUD$25,000 (cash component)

The Arizona State University Art Museum’s Ceramics Research Center, in an effort to define the front edge of experimental ceramic work, is looking for limited submissions for the exhibition Midstream: New Ceramics from the Heartland.   Artists in the Midwestern region of the U.S. can submit up to 5 low resolution digital images and a brief resume and statement. Artists residing in the following states are eligible: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Midstream will uncover the work of 5-7 artists or artist collectives that are defining a new generation of clay workers reflecting the dominance in the contemporary art world of artists from diverse backgrounds working with new issues of identity.  We are soliciting work that is bold in its commentary on global concerns and move to a broader examination of our humanity through humor, fantasy or direct honesty.

We are seeking artists that create with clay/mixed-media in a wide range of approaches: installation, performative, participatory or industrial.  Stipends for shipping costs are available.
