Yonhap News Agency has decided to hold the "Yonhap International Press Photo Awards (YIPPA)" under the slogan of "Share the Moment, Share the Future," in order to join the United Nations' efforts to promote international peace, common prosperity of mankind, and environmental protection. YIPPA is specifically aimed at supporting the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); therefore, profits from this event will be donated to the UN Fund for the improvement of global poverty, global environmental preservation and disaster relief.

Hence, YIPPA is expected to provide a platform for the enhancement of communication among human beings across the globe through photography, a universal language, subsequently creating a beautiful world.

With support from the Times Square Alliance, TWO is hiring artists to create and present public projects in Times Square during the week of October 2–8, 2011. We are accepting applications for TWO employment through June 30th.

The Work Office (TWO) is a multidisciplinary art project disguised as an employment agency. Informed by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) of the Great Depression in the 1930s, TWO is a gesture to “make work” for visual and performing artists, writers, and others by giving them simple, idea-based assignments that explore, document, and improve daily life in New York City. From a temporary, publicly accessible office, TWO’s administrators will hire employees, exhibit work, and distribute Depression-era wages at a Payday Party.

TWO is accepting applications for assignments that can be presented in a public space in Times Square to a wide audience, that explore the relationship between art and civic life, and that respond to the unique history and nature of the Times Square District through one of the following TWO assignments:

★ build a bridge
★ reinterpret a newspaper photo
★ record an oral history with someone who works in the Times Square District
★ design a poster to promote something
★ make a mixed CD related to places, people, or experiences in Times Square
★ catalog WPA structures in New York
★ start an American tradition
★ give a concert for a plant in Times Square
★ document a need for repairs
★ make a regional travel guide for the Times Square District
★ assign yourself

The Times Square District covers most of the territory from West 40th St to West 53rd St between 6th and 8th Aves, as well as Restaurant Row (46th St between 8th and 9th Ave). It includes all 39 Broadway theaters, the headquarters of major media companies, law firms, and financial institutions, as well as one-quarter of all hotel rooms in Manhattan.

Projects will be realized primarily on Broadway Plaza between 46th and 47th Streets. Projects cannot disrupt the flow of pedestrian traffic, present public safety hazards, or cause damage to public space. Structures that will be left unattended are generally not permitted. Anything constructed or delivered must be able to withstand winds up to 100 mph. Sound must be acoustic and non-amplified. Free Wi-Fi is available.

A TWO administrator will contact and interview applications of interest in July and August. Applications are evaluated based on the strength and clarity of the proposed response to one of our assignments, the relationship to the Times Square District, and the practicality of realizing it in that public space.

Hired employees must be able to complete and present their assignments publicly during the workweek of October 2–8, including a tour of all assignments, and a public Payday Party on the evening of Thursday, October 6th. At the Payday Party, employees will collect their wages of $23.50 for their completed assignments, which was the weekly wage for an artist in the Federal One Project (the arts division of the WPA). The public will be invited to view the week’s works and learn about the project. Completed assignments will be publicly presented in Times Square throughout the week of October 2–8.

Drift Station welcomes submissions by artists, writers, scientists, or anyone else interested in participating.

As the digital files (up until this point infinitely malleable and scalable) reach the printer, they are made manifest as fixed, physical objects; when hung on the gallery wall they each represent a small document in a curatorial process divorced from the geographically-focused perfection of the unique art object.

Video Takeaway is a series of curated programmes of video works presented on existing TV monitors in takeaways across the city of Plymouth (during Plymouth Fringe which runs alongside British Art Show 7).

Video Takeaway aims to show exciting short film and video works to a captive audience while they use our carefully selected takeaways.  Film or video submissions should be: - silent - 4:3 format - made for the specific context of a TV monitor in a takeaway (or existing works that would be interesting to be seen in this context) - between 30 seconds and 5 min (although we will consider longer works on a case-by-case basis) - suitable for a viewing in a public space, for a mixed audience (no explicit content,)  When you are considering your submission think about things that are visually stimulating, that might play in the background of a drunken conversation, that play with the idea of being seen in a takeaway, that play with being silent. Be aware that long narrative works might not function well in this situation.  

SUBMISSIONS: Upload your video online (eg using Vimeo or other video sharing site) and send us a link via email to [email protected] We CANNOT accept work on DVD, tape or other offline formats at this point.

Wide Open Space Conference, Dorset, UK

Wide Open Space is an initiative from the Dorset Design and Heritage Forum (DDHF), supported by funding from Arts Council England, which aims to develop a programme of strategic public art projects which place the county at the forefront of a new rural cultural agenda.

Directly supporting the aims of the Dorset Community Strategy, projects are engaging with the key issues of:

Wide Open Space: art in the public realm, localism and rural regeneration

The conference will address the following questions:

What does Localism mean for the quality of our environment and enhancement of our public space?

How do we continue to be creative in making places in the light of a major re-orientation of public policy and finance?

Is there still a role for art and design which addresses key social issues such as housing, transport and other community needs or should the focus return to economics, branding and "iconic" ar?

The conference will face up to these issues as a new agenda emerges for the contribution of planners, artists, architects and designers to public and private places and spaces at a time of radical change for rural counties and their communities. Key themes will be:

Localism, community planning and rural housing

Creating new, intergenerational, common spaces in the countryside

Enhancing sensitive landscapes and relational infrastructure

Tourism, interpretation and public space

Highlighting Dorset's recent achievements in commissioning art and design for the public realm it use examples from the Jurassic Coast public art programme, projects at Weymouth for the 2012 Olympics and the new Wide Open Space programme of research on context specific, cross-disciplinary art, design and heritage collaborations.

Speakers include:

Minister of State, The Rt Hon Oliver Letwin MP, an architect of Localism, Professor Malcolm Miles, art and regeneration specialist, a speaker from the Lake District National Park Design Programme on art, landscape and heritage in Cumbria, artists Michael Pinsky and London Fieldworks, public art specialist Maggie Bolt and curator Alex Murdin, Tom Munro (Manager for Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), David Lohfink (Land and Planning Manager for developers C G Fry), Kevin Morris (Head of Planning Policy North Dorset). Peacock Visual Arts is the leading contemporary visual arts organisation in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland. It is a place that brings artists and the public together through exhibitions‚ events‚ talks, residencies‚ film screenings‚ gigs and workshops to make and present art in exciting and innovative ways.

Peacock has three main areas of activity: printmaking, video and animation and exhibitions. Artist Residency at the Boston Center for the Arts

PROGRAM OVERVIEW 

The Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) is accepting applications for the Artist Residency Program. This fifteen-week, non-traditional, process-oriented residency is awarded to two individuals artists per year (no groups or collaborative pairs). Through a series of community programs jointly developed by the artist and the BCA, it allows artists to connect to the public and explore themes that inform their residency project.

International artists are invited to apply; however, all artists are responsible for their own visa, travel, living and housing expenses.

Financial Support | Artists receive a one-time $2,250 honorarium. 

Studio Space - Artists are provided with a private studio in the BCA Artist Studios Building, which houses a community of nearly 50 artists including painters, printmakers, sculptors, filmmakers, craftspeople, writers, performing artists and others.

International Fellowship Programme of HALLE 14, Leipzig, Germany

In 2011, with the start of the International Fellowship Programme Studio14, the centre for contemporary art HALLE 14 will for the first time award two residency fellowships to artists. The programme invites artists from around the world to work for three months (June 30 - September 30, 2011) in a studio at the world-famous Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei. The theme for the current programme is "What Happened to God?" An independent jury of art experts will meet on May 25, 2011 to select two fellowship recipients from the applications, which must arrive at HALLE 14 by May 20, 2011.

The fellowship recipients will receive a monthly stipend of 1,000 Euros and a one-time materials fee of 500 Euros, travel expenses up to 600 Euros, a studio space and a flat. In 2011, the fellowship also includes participation in a 14-day European Artist Exchange Workshop (August 15-28, 2011) that HALLE 14 has organised in cooperation with Wiels Centre for Contemporary Art Brussels (BE) and Maumaus School for Visual Art Lisbon (PT). The two fellowship holders from HALLE 14 will meet in Leipzig with two fellows from each partner institution to take part in a joint programme.

The work created during the fellowship may be exhibited in HALLE 14 during the September Gallery Tour of the Spinnerei (September 17-18, 2011).
