Manifest seeks to energize students and recent graduates of art and design programs towards higher goals, professionalism, and public-mindedness. Therefore, for a fifth year in a row, we offer this challenge to students and their professors in local, regional, and national college programs to show us what you've got, bring it off campus, and share it with the everyday viewing public.

Since 2005 Manifest has exhibited the works of students from fifty-three different academic institutions across the U.S.

Eligibility: Entrants must have graduated or be scheduled to graduate in 2008, 2009, or 2010 from an undergraduate program of art or design.

Media: Work submitted may be in any visual art media.

Catalog: Manifest will produce a full-color catalog documenting the work in Rites of Passage. Exhibitors will receive a 50% discount on one copy of the catalog. For examples of past catalogs visit the Manifest Press library on the Manifest website.

Every year Manifest calls for little works of art from around the world. Like short poetry, they are a challenge to craft with the same presence of their larger counterparts. Each exhibit brings in hundreds of powerful yet diminutive masterpieces for our jury to mull over. Inevitably we end up with a gallery full of diverse, compelling, and exquisite little gems. Manifest’s patrons eagerly await the Magnitude SEVEN event each year. So without further ado, we offer this call to artists to submit works no larger than seven inches in any dimension (any proportion). Standard presentation devices like mats and frames that are not considered part of the work of art are not limited by the 7" criteria.

Environmental artists, landscape/garden designers, other visual and performance-based artists are invited to submit proposals for site-specific works on the grounds of the 450-acre I-Park artists' community in rural East Haddam,Connecticut (U.S.).  Twelve artists/designers will be selected by a three-person independent panel for two, two-week residency sessions  (August 17 - 31 and September 2 - 16, 2009), with a grant of $1,200 per invited artist plus up to an additional $1,000 for reimbursement of travel costs and/or materials. Lodging and meals will be provided for the term of the  residency.  A public event on September 19, 2009 will showcase the work.

Seeking two European Artists skilled in either public art or sculpting

Seeking two European Artists skilled in either public art or sculpting to participate in public art project "Celebrating Women in Culture" in Ramallah, Palestine. You (the artists) will participate in two-week long residency program alongside ten Palestinian artists. Depending on artist's availability the residency will begin between March 15 and April 15th at a total duration of two weeks within this time period.
You will contribute in the conceptualization and technical instruction pertaining toward the creation of a 20 meter by 5 meter civic-minded public mural resulting from this project. The materials used for the two week workshop will largely be decided by the two European artists.

We are looking for new techniques to be used to construct large-scale public art. Currently we are planning to sculpt the majority of the mural from clay but are open to new methods such as steel, stone, and alternative forms of casting. All expenses for artists will be covered along with a per diem as stipulated by the European Commission. We are in the process of obtaining funds to cover additional payment to the artists for their time and effort.

All materials, food, transportation, residency, pocket money and basic needs will be covered by the project partners, The Open Workshop for Culture and Arts and The Women Affairs Technical Committee and the project sponsor, The European Commissions. Please send inquires to [email protected]

New Image Gallery invites artists whose work includes aspects of both photography and drawing to submit entries for the 16th Annual New Image Photography Exhibition, “Photography and Drawing.” This may include photographic processes, but also encompasses source materials such as artists’ notebook. Work may not exceed 45” in any direction, including frame, due to size of exhibition panels and pedestals. Work must have been completed within the past five years, and not previously exhibited in New Image Gallery.

Projects that engage the public with biomedical science through the arts.

Next deadlines: for smaller projetct  3 April 2009, and 31 July 2009; 23 January for larger projects.

The Arts Awards support projects that engage the public with biomedical science through the arts including dance, drama, performance arts, visual arts, music, film, craft, photography, creative writing or digital media.

Applications are invited for projects up to £30,000. The aim of the awards is to support arts projects that reach new audiences that may not traditionally be interested in science and provide new ways of thinking about the social, cultural and ethical issues around contemporary science.

The scheme is open to a wide range of people including, among others, artists, scientists, curators, filmmakers, writers, producers, directors, academics, science communicators, teachers, arts workers and education officers. For small to medium-sized projects (up to and including £30 000) upcoming deadlines are:  3 April 2009, and 31 July 2009. Decisions will be made approximately three months after the relevant deadline. For large projects (over £30, 000) the next deadline is 23 January 2009.

Women's Studio Workshop WSW is a non-profit organization with studios in printmaking, hand papermaking, ceramics, letterpress printing, photography, and book arts, specializing in artist residencies, workshops, and community programming.

WSW Internships are a great way for emerging artists to gain valuable professional experience in a community setting that is artistically supportive and challenging. Summer, Studio, and Arts Administrative interns work full-time during their term. They are encouraged to work on their own art and are provided access to all WSW studios in their non-working hours. WSW provides a private room in our on-site housing and a stipend of $300/month.

HOW TO APPLY

Project Description: Describe in a paragraph the themes and content of the show. It is imperative your description is clear and that it leaves us with a strong impression of what to expect from the exhibition you propose. Include project title, how many pieces in the show, media, and other important details on your plans for the exhibition. We are interested in compelling ideas, concisely stated.

Work Sample: Enclose up to 15 digital images on a CD, including samples of work by all participating artists to provide a sense of the proposed show. Digital image files should be saved on the CD as the artists' last name and numbered corresponding to the Work Description List, such as Jones_01.jpg, Jones_02.jpg, Smith_03.jpg. Size images at 1200 pixels on the longest dimension. Do not embed images into PDF files. For video samples we will accept DVD and CD-ROM formats. Images are crucial to our understanding of your proposal. Your Project Description should function as the backbone that connects your image samples together.

Work Description List: List details of the work corresponding with their number, including artist's name, title, dimensions of work, materials used and date executed for each piece.

Support Materials: We recommend but do not require enclosing a resume and one page or less artist statement from each participating artist. Please do not include reviews, publications, or other additional items.

DUMBO ARTS CENTER (DAC) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit contemporary arts organization located in Dumbo, Brooklyn, New York. DAC's mission is to catalyze interaction between visual artists, the local community and the wider public, in order to preserve the neighborhood of Dumbo as a springboard for new art. DAC produces the annual multi-site D.U.M.B.O. Art Under the Bridge Festival ®, presents a year-round program of new exhibitions in its gallery, commissions site-specific art and provides educational programs for artists and high school students.

2009 OPEN CALL FOR EXHIBITION PROPOSALS
DAC invites artists or curators (individuals or groups) from all levels of experience to submit exhibition proposals for realization in its gallery space in 2010. The 3,000 sq. ft. space is located at 30 Washington Street. Built in 1887, the site was the first of many factories to be built along the East River Waterfront between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges by cardboard box manufacturer, Robert Gair in the late 19th Century.

GUIDELINES
DAC is particularly interested in proposals, which harness and interpret the space's unique physical, spatial, historical, or psychological potential and which take an innovative, experimental approach to site-specific or site-responsive exhibition making.

Proposals must be original and conceived for the DAC space i.e. may not have been realized in any other venue.

Proposed exhibitions can be solo, two-person, or group and are open to all visual arts media.

DAC implements a two-round process in its open call:

ROUND I: requires the submission of a written statement ONLY. Whether the applicant is an artist or a curator, an exhibition must ultimately be communicated effectively to the media and public in addition to the art on display. A public talk by the curator during the show’s run will be mandatory. The ability to articulate and convey an idea in writing is therefore essential for DAC to evaluate the feasibility and sound intellectual premise of a proposal.

ROUND II: DAC will select a shortlist of proposals from ROUND I and invite applicants to submit supporting visual material and resumes etc.

A final decision will be made on the basis of the material submitted in both rounds and applicants will be notified. Please note that due to the volume of work and a skeleton staff, DAC will only contact applicants whose proposals are of interest.

1. For ROUND I, proposals should not exceed 2,000 words, must include name(s) of applicant, contact information and if applicable at the time of writing, a list of artists.

The art producer consonni had wanted to organise a public call as another formula for working with artists and the art project IDENSITAT fancied sharing actions with other similar projects with their base in other territories out of Cataluña. So the collaboration arose naturally and consonni proposed the town of Sondika in the province of Bizkaia in Basque country, as the place of intervention.

ID+consonni opens a new international project production call directed towards contemporary artists and creators (individually or collectively) willing to contribute proposals within the sphere of public space from a cross-disciplinary perspective and to interact via different strategies within the social space of the context involved (Sondika).

Through this call Sondika wishes to point to that very loss of identity it suffered with the arrival of an airport, which forced its inhabitants to build a new municipality. The proposal is that artists or artists' collectives with an interest in having an impact on the borough, through projects designed for public space that pose contemporary creation strategies incorporating specific aspects for the context, should concentrate on its very identity as a municipality and on the involvement of its inhabitants in recent history, not in a nostalgic but in a reactivating sense of exploration of its own identity.

Territorial monitoring team
Once the projects that are to be produced have been selected, a viability study will be carried out in the different boroughs involved. This will be the work of a commission comprised of local agents with ground knowledge of the reality in each municipality. Their task is to provide advice regarding the different possibilities of work with specific sectors of the population and to monitor the productions.

ECONOMIC CONDITIONS

Each artist or group of artists selected will receive the sum of 4000 euros (tax included) in respect of fees.

consonni covers travel expenses, accommodation, subsistence allowance and local transport for the artist/s' stay. A maximum budgetary sum is envisaged, to be negotiated depending on place of origin, the number of people and the number of days' stay.

The costs that may be incurred during the production process must not exceed 7000 euros (VAT included). In cases where the budget for the projects (production) is in excess of the estimated amount, the possibilities of the participants themselves receiving sponsorship or funding from other sources will be assessed.
