Encounters is now the leading UK gateway to the world’s most prestigious short film and animation awards, including the BAFTAs, Cartoon D’Or, European Film Awards, and Oscars®. Submit your short documentary by Thursday 30th June, for an opportunity to showcase your creative talent and a chance to win a major award.

For the first time this year, Encounters aims to present an Experimental Award with a prize up to the value of £1,000. The festival is calling for all short films that either do not conform to the sense of a linear narrative, that use various abstracting techniques and/or the use of asynchronous (non-diegetic) sound.

Short films are eligible from all over the world, completed from 1 Jan 2010, under 30 minutes in length from every genre (animation, live action drama, documentary, experimental and music video). The festival is offering a £5 discount for digital submissions, and heavily reduced fees for multiple submissions.

All submitted experimental films will be eligible for the two Grand Prix awards and other awards where applicable (South West, British, European New Talent, Children’s Jury, DepicT!).

Peacock Visual Arts would like to announce an open call for submissions from artists, collectives, curators and filmmakers.

Peacock Visual Arts is the leading contemporary visual arts organisation in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland. It is a place that brings artists and the public together through exhibitions‚ events‚ talks, residencies‚ film screenings‚ gigs and workshops to make and present art in exciting and innovative ways.

Peacock has three main areas of activity: printmaking, video and animation and exhibitions. While we welcome proposals for all three areas, we are particularly interested in submissions that propose new screen-based art, film or animation or proposals for exhibitions for a specific slot within our programme, 14 Jan 2012 to 24 Feb 2012.

STOP & GO 3-D, San Francisco

Call for Submissions

Stop & Go is a program of innovative stop-motion animations by contemporary visual artists and filmmakers, touring and screening internationally since 2008. The program showcases animations that use stop-motion techniques to explore visual language, tell stories and make poignant social commentaries. New animation work is being sought for the third installment of the program called Stop & Go 3-D. The program will screen hand-rendered stereoscopic and anaglyphic experiments that explore traditional 3-D animation produced using stop-motion. Animations that experiment with geometrical elements, pieces that are highly optical or those that comment on the current 3-D craze will also be reviewed. Please note that stop-motion techniques must constitute a significant portion of the work. Both narrative and experimental works will be accepted to this program. The audience will view most of the show through bi-colored red and blue spectacles.

Entry of materials:
The animation’s total running time must not exceed 10 minutes. All entries must be produced in 2008 or later. If your animation is not in English, please provide English language subtitles. Artists must secure all copyrights to the work including any musical soundtracks.

Send entry submissions on a DVD-NTSC disc—please, no PAL discs. If your submission is accepted, a data-file format DVD or Mini-DV tape will be required for inclusion in the master-screening reel. Each submitted work should be labeled with the title of the piece, running time, name of project director and contact information. Please do not put stickers on the DVDs.

Fees & Costs:
There is no entry fee to submit your work to Stop & Go. All costs for mailing the materials to Stop & Go are at the expense of the participant. Discs will be returned only if a self-addressed envelope and appropriate postage cost is enclosed. If no SASE is enclosed, then it is understood that Stop & Go may keep the disc for their library. Stop & Go does not take responsibility for any loss or damage of the work during shipment. Please do not send original copies.

Tour:
The last two installments of the show, Stop & Go and Stop & Go Rides Again, toured extensively, including venues in the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Israel and Croatia. Stop & Go 3-D will embark on a similar tour, to begin in 2012, and will travel until 2014. By submitting the signed form with entry materials the artist agrees to these terms.

The Salon Video Prize 2011 is produced by Matt Roberts Arts as part of our commitment to offer exposure to this greatly underrepresented medium and develop new audiences for film and video work.
 
It is expected that up to 25 practitioners will be exhibited at our gallery space in East London. We will also award one artist the Selectors' Prize of £1000.

We are interested in any cutting edge experiments with the moving image that could hardly fit to the traditional genres like fiction, documentary, or music video. Experimental films are not just about technical innovation, but its about new voices and new perspectives.

What is a motion portrait?
Is there such a thing?  What distinguishes motion portraits from biographical films and documentaries? 

Portraiture and self-portraiture have fascinating histories in painting, drawing, sculpture and photography, but what has happened to the form of the portrait in the digital age?  Are contemporary filmmakers, video artists, animators and programmers pushing the disciplines of the portrait and self-portrait into motion?   

The Cornell Council for the Arts, Prudence Risley Residential College for the Creative and Performing Arts at Cornell University, and Cornell Cinema invite submissions of motion portraits and self-portraits for a curated screening.  Through this open call, we seek to uncover the full depth and range of contemporary portraiture and self-portraiture in time-based arts. Broad interpretations of "portrait" and "self-portrait" are welcome.

Accepting all artworks which can be screened in video (including film, video, motion graphics, animation, programming, game interfaces, flip books, etc.)  Due to scheduling limitations, works under 5 minutes preferred.

Exhibition of the curated show will be at Cornell Cinema in April 2010.

A participatory art project - a continuously growing series of animations with many authors:
The flags of every nation in the world will transform into each other through flash animation.

Between each two flags, scenes appear to show an aspect of the relations between the two
countries - an exploration into the meaning of imagery on flags, aiming to create interrelated associations through questioning, reassessing, fluidizing and re- mixing of diverse national iconography. Flag Metamorphoses lays stress on the relations between nations as changing ones. Each artist who creates a flag animation expresses such a relation in his/her own way.

This is a call for lens-based artists working in film, video or animation, who deal with issues of inbetween-ness and hybridisation in the context of Asia. Simply Screen relates to the course Dichotomy, Diversity, Discourse: Art on the Pacific Rim of the 2009 Transart Institute Summer Residency. There will be a one-hour screening of ten pieces of selected works and a 30-minute discussion with the audience.

Simply Screen aims to show a selection of new video works from international artists that will cover a wide range of ideas, including 
issues of immigration, industrialisation, globalisation and identity.  
The event will interrogate how people in Asia and the Asian diasporas see themselves within the complex presence of contemporary global culture; how artists respond to ideas of contemporary multiculturalism and trans-nationalism related to the context of Asia; how artists visualise the issues of war, memory, conflict, displacement, identity and the sense of belonging.

Rules:
1. All art works need to have been created since 2006.
2. Submissions must arrive by 15th June 2009.
3. Submissions will only be accepted on DVD.
4. Maximum length: 10 minutes (edits of longer works accepted).
5. Artists need to include their contact details, a short CV or 
biography, the details of the work, 3 still images and a statement (up to 200 words).

Award:
One full tuition scholarship of EUR 2400 will be offered to one of the chosen artists. The award recipient will be invited to attend the Transart Institute Summer Certificate program from July 25 - August 15, 2009 in Berlin. Travel and accommodation are not included in the award.

Visions in the Nunnery was started in 1997 by Marcel Baettig and is hosted by the Nunnery Gallery, Bow Arts Trust, London. Visions is a series of events showcasing international moving image works by both emerging and more established artists.

Coordinated and curated by Tessa Garland and Cinzia Cremona, Visions includes an annual international open call and a number of smaller screening events. We encourage and support critical engagement through curatorial exchanges, forums and talks.

www.openvisions.org aims to provide online information about current and past Visions shows. The site contains an archive of selected videos that have been shown at past Visions by participating artists.
