Island Press in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis will award its first fellowship in 2016 for an emerging artist. Candidates are asked to submit project proposals for a one-week residency at Island Press to produce a project based in print media. The result of the residency will be the execution of the proposed project including, but not limited to, the creation and editioning of fine art prints. The Island Press master printer, along wth a small team of assistants, will facilitate the project. We seek projects that are both innovative and feasible.
Fellows will receive lodging for the residency period and half of the print edition(s)/project. All material expenses for the project will be covered. Transporation and meals are the responsibility of the artist/fellow.
The Island Press Emerging Artist Fellowship is open to artists who are in the early stages of their career, who are under-recognized, and whose developing voices reveal significant potential. Paramount to the review of each proposal is an assessment of the quality of the artistic work. Island Press welcomes the opportunity to support projects that embody diverse cultural perspectives. Printmaking experience is not required.
