We are pleased to invite submissions for the Videodansa, Barcelona Prize, the international competition held as part of IDN – Image, Dance and New Media.

The competition accepts audiovisual works where dance, choreographic language, body and movements are the main subjects. We are specially interested in works that investigate in the audiovisual language the research of new narratives and the choreographic creation thought to be seen at the screen.

All selected works will be screened as part of the dance film program within the IDN festival, which will be held from the 8th to the 11th of January at the Mercat de les Flors and CaixaForum, Barcelona.

An international jury will award a prize of 4,000 euros to the best international dance film, and will propose a list of maximum 12 works that will form part of different remunerated diffusion programs.
The deadline for submissions is October 31st, 2008.

The Glucksman is currently offering a Fellowship in Curatorial Practice aimed at those who wish to pursue a professional curatorial career in an institutional context. The Fellow will work with the Curator of Exhibitions + Projects on the research, administration and realisation of the Glucksman's artistic programme, with additional duties as appropriate to specific projects. Exceptional candidates in art history, museum studies, and related fields with a demonstrated interest in contemporary art and curatorial practice will be considered. This is a one year full-time position, commencing in January 2009, with a €12000 salary and a further €2000 available for travel and research related costs.

This included supporting professional artists and arts organisations, usually at an early research and development stage. 2008 will be the third and final year of the Arts in Public Spaces programme and, although existing commitments to a few projects in urban areas will be honoured, those in rural areas will be prioritised. The programme offers early research and development support for activities leading to imaginative and unusual projects devised for rural and non-conventional locations.

The Foundation’s art theme supports professional artists and UK based arts organisations, usually at an early research and development stage. Fugitive Projects announces an open call to artists for video of one minute or less.

Last year’s Fugitive Video Project 2007 was an invitational and included emerging and established artists whose collective resume includes collaborations with Tom Waits, Win Wenders and the Vienna Philharmonic, participation in such major exhibitions as the Whitney Biennial, Berlin Biennial, The Sundance Film Festival, Cannes, and whose works are in the collections of the MOMA in New York, The Whitney Museum of American Art and many other institutions in the North America and Europe. Participants hailed from The United States, France, Switzerland, Germany, Serbia, Costa Rica, Cuba, China, Turkey, Austria, Brazil and England and included artists Kristin Lucas, Casey Reas, Bert Rodriguez, Hernan Bas, Dominic DeJoseph, Matt Freedman, Scott Reeder, Charles De Meaux and Huber.Huber. This program played at art venues and theaters across the U.S. as well as Dublin, Ireland, Cairo, Egypt, Basel, Switzerland and Banff, Canada. It is still traveling to new venues.

This year Fugitive Projects has set aside 20 spaces for open call video submissions to join invited participants into Fugitive Video Project 2009 via this open call.

Fugitive Projects encourages submissions that engage in a contemporary dialogue investigating concerns of video and film inside, as well as outside, of metropolitan art centers. All artists are encouraged to submit work in this open call to join established video artists who are already committed to the project. Fugitive Projects expects an even more comprehensive world tour for the Fugitive Video Project 2009. New additions to our Video Project 2009 already include Steven Vitiello, Daniel Canty, Eliane Rutishauser, Stephanie Rothenberg, Jenna Gribbon, Melody Owen, Bill Daniel as well as many artists from Fugitive Project 2007 and many new contributors to come.

Open Call Submission Guidelines: We will accept NTSC formatted Hi-Resolution Quicktime and MPEG data files on disks OR mini-dv tapes. Please include contact info and a resume either on a disk or in hardcopy. Accepted works will be notified by email and posted on our web-site in early 2009. Work not accepted can be destroyed to protect the artists’ copy-write or held in our archives for future consideration. Due to short noticed cancellation, Les Territoires is accepting application for Les Territoires Est (please see the floor plan: http://www.lesterritoires.org/images/galerie/planhigh.jpg) for the slot from December 3rd to December 23rd. The deadline is Oct 15th. Please indicate “2008 Dec” on the envelope.

The gallery is rented to the artist for a period of three weeks and includes:
-gallery attendant during opening hours of the exhibition
-invitation design and e-vite to our electronic mailing list
-a web page linked to the gallery’s main website
-artist retains 100% of their sales
-nominal rental fee for data projector and/or DVD player

Submissions should include:
-Your CV including your mailing address, email and phone number
-An artist statement or project proposal of maximum 500 words

The Nunnery Gallery will be hosting a screening of moving image work that relates to the changes that are taking place in the Olympic Park /Lower Lea Valley, East London.

We wish to invite artists and film makers to send in work that is engaging and specific to this area.  Work considered can be in presented in a variety of styles e.g. animation, enhanced digital, documentary or short experimental works.

The work could explore the physical environment (past, present or future) including the architecture, graffiti etc or target social, environmental, and political concerns and issues. We welcome your responses and will select work that reflects a broad spectrum of ideas.

Description

The SZPILMAN AWARD is awarded to works that exist only for a moment or a short period of time.
The purpose of the award is to promote such works whose forms consist of ephemeral situations.

Prize

The SZPILMAN AWARD is awarded annually.

The prize winner receives the Jackpot Stipendium.

This scholarship consists of three parts:
A challenge cup,
a journey to Cimochowizna (Poland),
a sum of money in cash.

The amount of money is dynamic. SZPILMAN is raising money parallel to the competition. The prize winner receives the money that is raised until October 15, 2008.

Among the applicants, one award winner will be identified. The challenge cup will be handed over.

Application

Everyone can apply for the SZPILMAN AWARD.
Both individuals and groups of persons are free to apply.

The work must have been realized between October 1, 2007, and October 15, 2008.

To that, fill in the application form with name, e-mail, telephone,address, title of the work, and date of construction.

Raid Projects Los Angeles is offering one of our two bedrooms and a studio for artists to come to Los Angeles, make new work, network with commercial galleries and curators, and explore Los Angeles at a rate of $1000 US per month (The AIR program will rise in cost for 2009 to $1200 US).

Overview
The Artist In Residence Program (AIR)

For periods of 3 or 6 months residents are provided with living accommodation and a studio. During the residency Raid encourages the artist to bring curators, critics and collectors to visit the studio and see the produced work privately.

AIR resident artists are predominantly international, but we also host US artists whose projects are suitable to a LA residency. The residency fee from April 2008 is $1000 US per month. This will NOT culminate with an exhibition after this date. The residency will entirely concentrate on the artists experimentation and experience of Los Angeles without the pressure of a final outcome. This residency will be for the artist to choose to spend their time wherever they feel it will do them the most good. There is a space dedicated to displaying work for any visits by curators, critics, etc but will not act as a show or host an opening. Please note, upon acceptance into the program, it is up to the artist to secure their space by providing a non-refundable deposit of the first months rent ($1000US). This is the only way to cement the dates you wish to have. The AIR program will rise in cost for 2009 to $1200 US to reflect increases in rent as well as the decline in value of the US dollar.
What you can expect from the Artist In Residency Program:

To provide the artist with an environment that is condusive to a creative working experience.

To respond in a timely manner to an artists questions and concerns

To provide the artist upon their arrival with rooms that are clean and orderly.

To always be respectful of the artists space.

1. Gallery Hopping:Shortly after their arrival the artist will be encouraged to visit the many galleries, opening receptions and arts events happening every week. This is a great way to meet people in the LA art scene.

2. Getting Started: Raid does not provide artists with materials for their projects. However, there are tools at Raid and the artist is more than welcome to use them, but types and availabilities will vary from time to time. And on the subject of tools, Home Depot is just down the street.

3. Analysis: Upon the artist's request, to engage in a comprehensive critique with the gallery director before the artist completes their residency.

Call For Entries: AGENDA: QUEERING POPULAR MEDIA exhibition at Current Gallery

AGENDA (November 14-December 12, 2008 at Current Gallery, Baltimore USA) is interested in how queer subjectivity informs, and is mediated by, evolving technology, the media, and our present state of collective (un)consciousness; the use, abuse, and critique of popular media; and the creation of autonomous spaces for play, discourse, and protest. Mining the formal and narrative conventions of film and television, as well as the experimental opportunities afforded by new media, printed matter, and so forth, an illusory architecture emerges where both identities and histories are fluid.

Themes of marginalized desires, conceptions of celebrity, genesis and reinvention, reconciling the self through community, and the quandaries of visibility and voyeurism will be explored as the symptoms of immediacy precipitated by our digital age. By refitting the lens through which popular culture and media are viewed and re-calibrating the gaze, AGENDA will present new models of activism and representation, and seeks to document a unique moment in history when the collapse of public and private is expected, and surveillance spells opportunity.

Works selected from this call will be featured in baltimore vs. the world DVD publication due out 2009.

baltimore vs. the world will incorporate two separate DVD compilations. One DVD will feature selected works from around the world and the other DVD will focus on selected works from Baltimore, Maryland. Accompanying the DVDs will be a booklet with interviews and support materials.
