FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August, 2008 New phase in the evolution of Black & White Gallery's Williamsburg location as it launches Black & White Project Space for site-specific installations As exhibition spaces disappear from the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn due to the building boom that has replaced so much of the neighborhood's historic fabric, Black & White Gallery remains committed to the local community. The success of Black & White Gallerys site-specific outdoor exhibition program has prompted the decision to combine the entire original gallery spaceinside and outinto a single project space dedicated to the emerging field of site-specific installations. In order to support this ambitious vision, Black & White Gallery // Williamsburg has been transformed into a non-profit entity - Black & White Project Space - a sponsored organization of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). www.blackandwhiteprojectspace.org Black & White Project Space will be launched as an experimental, art project related platform in the fall of 2008 with the inaugural exhibition scheduled to open in the spring of 2009. Black & White Project Space will present 2 exhibitions per season, one in the fall and one in the spring spotlighting a single artist or an artist collective, and will function as a live/work space for an Artist-in-Residency Program during winter and summer months. With its new format, Black & White Project Spaces programs will offer substantial resources to artists and make the exhibition content available to a broader public, featuring some of the most innovative site-specific installations shaping contemporary visual culture. While the curatorial focus will be exclusively on site-specific installations, organizational activities will expand in order to better serve the artists, audience and community. One of the main objectives of Black & White Project Space is to build a solid springboard for innovative site-specific projects that would otherwise be impossible for an artist to realize and for an audience to experience. Black & White Project Space stands prepared to offer artists a unique opportunity to realize their creative visions and actively engage the public in the very act of looking as a social experience. Black & White Project Space is located at 483 Driggs Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11211 and will open to the public in the spring 2009.
