The Art at Zero KM project is an artist residency organized by Big Bang Cultural Association with the support of the CARIPLO foundation.

The Art at Zero KM project is envisioned as the starting point for the development and enhancement of individual creative skills and as a tool aimed at supporting and sustaining the work of young, emerging artists. During three weeks a group of young artists will share an intense period of creative living and production; participation to workshops and laboratories; creations of new works and meetings with critics and curators. At the end of the residency an exhibition will be organized to give visibility to the young participants' artistic journey and work.

WORKSHOP/RESIDENCY:

The workshop/residency will take place from July 1 to July 22. The selected artists will lodge at Cascina Comperto in double rooms. Conviviality among the artists is an important aspect of the project. Housing and food are catered for by the organizers, while the costs for realizing the art pieces are to be met by the artists themselves. To work, artists can use the common spaces in the Cascina as well as the surrounding natural spaces. Formative meetings with personalities from the arts world will take place during the residency.

AIMS OF THE PROJECT:

- Enhance the formation of young artists and facilitate their introduction into the art world - Realize art works and site specific installations as an integral part of the residency
- Present the final pieces with a final exhibition
- Publish a catalogue with the pieces
- Enrich the participants' relational portfolio by creating links with critics, gallery owners and other public and private institutions.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The residency is free of charge and is intended for 8 artists between the ages of 20 and 35 who intend to work in a natural context and to develop projects connected to folk, cultural, landscapist memory of the surrounding territory. The students or young artists interested in participating will have to submit their application by 20 MAY 2012.

The New York Art Residency and Studios (NARS) Foundation is pleased to announce its second annual Emerging Curator Open Call. The Emerging Curator Program offers an opportunity for a young-in-career curator to present a group show at the NARS Foundation Gallery. The aim of the program is to encourage new dialogue and to create a platform for artists and curators to experiment and exchange ideas. The curator is provided with exhibition space and administrative support to present innovative ideas and artworks in a unique gallery surrounded by an artist community and studios.

The curator is responsible for organizing and installing/de-installing the show and writing a short essay to accompany the exhibition. NARS Foundation will provide the gallery space, insurance for the artwork during the term of the exhibition, administrative support including marketing, postcard invitations, email invites and will organize an opening reception and a Curator’s Talk. A stipend of $200 will be awarded to the selected applicant to help subsidize the cost of organizing the exhibition. There will be no other financial support towards production of artwork, installation cost, or shipping/transportation of artwork.

Meta Young Art Critics' Award, artgenève

The Meta Young Art Critics' Award is the first award scheme set up specifically to recognize the contribution made by art critics and art writers, and to encourage them at an early stage of their careers.

The contemporary scene of art production has long operated as a zone of indistinction, where entrepreneurial impulses reign and disciplinary boundaries become just another (post-)medium. Discursive practices such as writing and publishing are embraced by artists, while multi-tasking art critics curate exhibitions and develop performative sidelines to their textual habitus. The recent codification of 'art writing' likewise signals an admission that a 'third rail' has emerged, neither descriptive or prescriptive, neither academic or journalistic, between the art critic and the art historian. And of course the imprimatur of the art critic has been noted as in decline ever since the curator and the consultant came to dominate an ever-more globalised and market-driven art world.

Keeping this in our sights, the aim of the Meta Young Art Critics' Award is to focus on the imperative which rightly belongs to the critic and to the activity of criticism: to situate itself not simply above or beside the current field of production, but within it in order to grasp its conditions of possibility. The immanent role of the critic is in that sense less to interpret and more to reconstruct, in the words of Adorno, an 'exact imagination' that inhabits and extracts the principle of a work, wherever it starts and ends. We are establishing this award also out of curiosity: what is art criticism when it isn't operating at the service of something, be it institutional canons or marketing drives? How do we envision the act of judgment with relation to contemporary art practice, an act deprived of power and profit? Does it simply become a more intensely textual art practice among others and accompanying others, or does it have its own, cognitive, affective resources to structure the experience of art?

Submissions should be in English and can discuss one work, several works, a whole oeuvre, or a field of practice. Submissions should be no longer than 10,000 signs or 1400 words. The final date for submissions will be 29 February 2012.

The author of the prize-winning essay will receive 1000 CHF in prize money and essay will be published in the Spring 2012 issue of Parkett, which is represented in the jury for the Meta Award.

The Vermont Studio Center holds three annual fellowship deadlines, with new juries and different awards each time. In 2011, VSC awarded 179 fellowships to artists and writers from the U.S. and 25 other countries.

Vermont Studio Center Fellowships
Sixteen awards open to all artists and writers, based entirely on merit. Craig H. Neilsen Foundation Fellowships. Four fellowships for visual artists and writers with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Each award includes a $500 stipend for travel and expenses during the residency and, if necessary, a stipend for room, board, and travel for a personal care assistant.

Educational Foundation of America Fellowships
Three merit-based fellowships available to emerging and mid-career artists and writers of color from the United States.

David Bermant Foundation Fellowships
Two fellowships for visual artists focused on kinetic art including sound sculpture, performance and art that incorporates time, movement, motion and change. Preference will be given to work that draws its form, content and materials from current technology.

Harpo Foundation Native American Fellowships
Two fellowship awards open to Native American artists living in the U.S., based on the strength and quality of their work. This award includes a $500 travel stipend.

Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowships
Two fellowships for visual artists of outstanding talent from the United States.

Zoland Poetry Fellowships
Two awards open to writers of original English-language poetry and poetry translators.

The Association of Literary Scholars, Critics, and Writers (ALSCW) Fellowship
One fellowship for a writer who is a current member of ALSCW.

Charles E. & Edna T. Brundage Charitable, Scientific and Wildlife Conservation Foundation Fellowship
One fellowship for a visual artist or writer of merit from New Jersey with demonstrable financial need.

Civil Society Institute Fellowship
One fellowship for a minority artist with demonstrable financial need from New Haven, Jersey City, or Baltimore. The $25 application fee is waived for eligible CSI applicants. This award also includes a $500 travel stipend.

Kay Evans Award
One fellowship, open to all poets, based on merit. This award was created in honor of Maine resident Kay Evans by her friends and family.

Charles C. Gurd Artist Residency Award for Concordia University
One fellowship open to full-time faculty, graduate and undergraduate students with at least 30 credits in the Department of Studio Arts. Additionally, the Faculty of Fine Arts will provide the recipient up to $2,000 for travel and materials.

Helen Zell Residency Fellowship
One fellowship for a University of Michigan MFA candidate in poetry between their first and second year.

ANTI is an international contemporary arts festival presenting site-specific works made for public space. Over the past 10 years ANTI has presented live, sonic, visual and text-based art from today’s most exciting and innovative artists. A truly international festival and Finland’s foremost presenter of Live Art, ANTI is a meeting place for artists and audiences fascinated by how art shapes the spaces of everyday life.

We are looking for innovative and exciting live art works for children. ANTI has a long history of presenting ground breaking projects for children and this year our annual call out is focused on finding something truly inspiring. We especially invite proposals from contemporary performance makers who have not made. work for children before but would like to produce something for a young audience. In previous years companies and artists like Gwendoline Robin, Lone Twin and Mammalian Diving Reflex have presented outstanding work for children at ANTI. That’s the tradition we want to continue: great work made by great contemporary artists for children.

Your project can take any form – it may be participatory and children do something with you, or it might be something a young audience encounters by surprise, or anything in between. Your project may last 30 minutes or seven days. It may be for an audience of one, or hundreds and projects should be targeted at specific age groups – from new-borns to teenagers.

ANTI is a site-specific festival – we do not show work in traditional art spaces, neither do we show touring street theatre: all our projects have a direct relationship with the spaces and places they are shown in. When proposing a project please make it very clear where your project would ideally be located, and why.

Between all submitted videos, will be done a final selection based on vote of a Jury composed by experts. The 30 selected artworks will become part of CAM permanent collection.

All rights on videos remain property of author. The author assert, under his/her own liability, the complete right of use on used materials (images, sounds, videos) and that compose the artwork; the author undertake completely the liability for any breach of copyright laws.
To participate is necessary fill out the form available online, http://www.magmart.it/rules.php#sub.  The omission, or the incorrect filling, of one or more parts of form itself, will involve the exclusion of video by selection of Jury.

The possible selection by Jury is in any case subordinate at an essential condition for the proclaim of winners: the author of selected video must send, via ordinary mail, and within midnight of March, 15 2012, the donation act to CAM of the copy of his/her own video, and the hard copy on DVD itself. The donation act don't underlie in any way a transfer of right, but certify exclusively the willingness of author so that a copy of his/her own video artwork will be permanently keeped - and, with limitations above, utilized - in the permanent collection of CAM.

Without this donation act, the videos will be rule out by group of 30 selected artworks, and replaced by those immediately subsequent in Jury's ranking.

JAR is a free online journal that focuses on artistic practice as research, re-negotiates art's relationship to academia and couples the multi-media and social capabilities of the web with peer-reviewing and scholarly rigour.

We invite original submissions from artists with or without academic affiliation who wish to contribute to the ongoing debate about research in the arts, and reflect on artistic practice, processes and research in exchange with a group of engaged peers.

Whether you see yourself as an artist, a designer, a musician or a performer, who works outside traditional academic research environments or an academic working on arts related research, we invite you to explore the possibilities of adopting alternative, experimental and more artistic modes of presenting research than a classic journal format may support.

With the aim of displaying and documenting practice in a manner that respects artists' modes of presentation, JAR provides its contributors with a free to use online writing space, a dynamic online canvas where text can be woven together with image, audio and video material. The result is a journal that promotes experimental approaches to 'writing' and provides a unique 'reading' experience, while carefully fulfilling the expectations of scholarly dissemination.

We embrace research practices across and between disciplines, and the rich-media writing space actively encourages collaboration, allowing multiple authors to work on the same document simultaneously.

1st International Photography Annual (INPHA) - Manifest, Cincinnati, Ohio

The INPHA 1 book will be released to the public In conjunction with FotoFocus*, a city-wide month-long 50+ venue celebration of the photographic arts to be held in Cincinnati, Ohio (and surrounding region) in October 2012. The goal of Manifest's Annual International Publication of Contemporary Photography and Lens-based Art is to support the recognition, documentation, and publication of excellent, current, and relevant photographic art on an ongoing basis. INPHA will become the third in a suite of annual Manifest books charting contemporary art around the world. It joins the International Painting Annual and award winning International Drawing Annual as an important new product of Manifest Press. This project represents a further expression of Manifest's unique process for assembling diverse and compelling multi-national projects, as well as its commitment to a wide variety of methods fo r visual creative expression. Upon its release INPHA 1 will be the tenth such major volume in the Manifest Press library. It will be formatted to complement the INDA and INPA series, and is expected to weigh in at approximately 200 pages full color.

 Today we swim in a sea of light based life. Whole days and weeks are spent interacting with flat screens beaming information across narrow space into our private lenses and brains. The conduit of our communications is light, by many means and many lenses. This is to such a degree as to make photography, light based imagery, nearly invisible. It has become like air. We exist so co-dependently with it that we hardly notice. Yet this does not diminish its power nor importance as an art form. By way of the INPHA Manifest aims to attract and contextualize truly exceptional works, those which rise above the every day, which epitomize not only excellent photography (or other lens based work) but exceptional art regardless of the media.

For this call for submissions Manifest is eager to receive works in a wide range of types, including traditional, digital, and experimental photography, video*, and other lens-based work. As with its other Annuals, Manifest is open to unexpected solutions, broad interpretation, and surprise. Works submitted must clearly feature the photographic/lens-based process as a primary, but not exclusive, characteristic.

*note that artists submitting time-based art (video, etc.) must realize that for the purpose of the publication only still imagery will be used to represent the project in print.

Eligibility
The International Photography Annual is open to any artist submitting original works of art created within the time frame of 2009 - 2012. Professionals and students in ALL disciplines are encouraged to submit. Manifest is eager to receive works in a wide range of applications with the qualification being that artwork submitted is representative of "photography or lens-based art" of the highest caliber.

Media (artwork)
Open to any media applicable to the practice of photography or lens-based work, including but by no means limited to traditional, digital/new media, photography, printmaking, mixed media, collage, etc. All are possibly valid.

Project History:

In 2005 Manifest launched the International Drawing Annual project. In six completed volumes (the 7th is currently in the jury stage) the INDA has presented over five hundred works by over 300 artists from around the world, and distributed the books far and wide to collectors, patrons, libraries, museum bookstores, art students, professors, and artists. Thousands view the online supplemental resources provided with each publication. The project has gathered considerable following over the past six years, making the INDA a respected source for a consistent, balanced, and intriguing sampling of excellent contemporary drawing. In 2010 the International Painting Annual (INPA) was launched with project support from The Ohio Arts Council. (INPA 2 is currently in production, also funded in-part by The Ohio Arts Council.) Now 2012 marks the launch of the INPHA.

Manifest's book and gallery projects have become highly competitive and prestigious events for artists to be involved with. And each new project brings different artists together, with new work, in new ways, and with always surprising results. AIR CELEIA 2012 Center for Contemporary Arts Celje, Slovenia

The Center for Contemporary Arts Celje is the central institution in the Savinjska region involved in the reaserch, presentation, development and promotion of local, national and international contemporary visual art. It includes three exhibition spaces (Gallery of Contemporary Art, Likovni salon Gallery and Racka Gallery) and carries out an educational program, outreaching with its activities in the regional framework, while at the same time functioning as a meeting place of local and international artistic events. We maintain active contacts with the rest of the world through our residency program AIR CELEIA, which has been active since 2005 and is dedicated to both artists and curators.

The AIR CELEIA program is conceived on the basis of a reciprocal model that enables the residential artist to become acquainted with, get in contact with, exchange experiences with and get involved in the local artistic community, offering at the same time local artists the possibility of establishing new connections and forms of collaboration, or of a potential presentation of themselves and their work internationally.

The Center for Contemporary Arts is publishing an open call for collaboration in the AIR CELEIA 2012 program. The selected artist will be offered a free two-month stay in our residential flat (which is located in the city center in the immediate vicinity of the Center for Contemporary Arts and the local artistic district; the residence includes a kitchen, a studio, a bedroom, a bathroom and Internet) and a grant of € 600 per month, with travel expenses to be covered by the artist. The Center for Contemporary Arts will arrange for the artist to connect with the city and establish contacts with the local artistic community as well as get acquanited with the artistic events in the local and wider environment.

Since the model of the residential AIR CELEIA program is actively connected with the city and its structure, the selected artist will be expected to make a project, organize a public event, action or performace at any location in the city. The artist will also have the possibility to present himself in an artist talk in one of the exhibition spaces of the Center for Contemporary Arts.

Gdansk 2016 and Gdansk City Gallery announce the international open call for the curator of NARRACJE Festival (scheduled for 15-18 November 2012).

Narracje Festival is a presentation of large scale projections on buildings and all kinds of creative, innovative and unusual artistic activities taking place in public space within the Festival map.

Requirements:
- minimum 5 years of documented experience as a curator having organized international artistic festivals or other artistic activities in open public space, or having organized at least 3 international festivals or other artistic activities in open public space during the last 10 years,
- ability to visit Gdansk during preparations for the Festival from March to November 2012 and constant presence in Gdańsk during the Festival,
- fluent command of English.
