My main area of research is the politics of representation. My paintings are multi-layered, constructed as art historical archaeological digs into socio-cultural histories. By isolating elements of heavily patterned fabrics contrasted with images, the paintings strategically push and pull between the background/foreground relationship.
The reference material I utilise is mainly derived from film stills, travel books, anthropological books and art historical sources. These hyper real images often have a stage-managed and retouched appearance. I am interested in layering, fragmenting and masking images.
