IGLOO 2005 HUNTER COLLEGE MFA SPRING THESIS approx. 10 feet tall x 15 feet wide.
This piece dealt with taking building source material not from steel mills, clay or wood but from the big box stores that are coming to dominate our lives more and more for the lowest price. 300 Storage containers purchased from Target, 600 zip plastic ties from the Home Depot, and a portable airconditioner from PCRichard home appliances were my source material, and a Igloo diagram from the internet. This work tried to blow home the coldness of big box store buisiness, where buying and consuming is celebrated and encouraged with these extra storage bins for every thing you buy.
TEE-PEE 2006 approx. 10 feet tall x 10 feet wide . DUMBO Art Festival Brooklyn NYC. This work dealt with the idea of where could native americans get material for a shelter if they were given back there land. The trees and large animal(-skinns) are gone. They would have to go to Home Depot, and buy pvc tubing and shrinkwrap. and white sand bags to weigh down without damaging the new sprinklers.
IGLOO ENTRANCE, this view shows the entrance of the igloo. I used plastic freezer strips to keep the cool air in, for the entrance. The entrire structure uses zip ties (plastic cinches) to fasten the piece together. I wanted to create a structure that uses materials of today that proliferate our lives, wood ,steal, clay were choices for previous generations, plastic rule our lives from car bumpers, to shopping bags, and water bottles to NYC subway metrocards.
