Eau de Vie (2008)

Neil Zakiewicz is an artist living in London. His work has been exhibited internationally in Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Republic of Ireland, Spain, Iceland, Sweden and South Korea.
He completed an MFA at Goldsmiths College in 2003 and has had solo exhibitions at Gone Tomorrow Gallery (2007) and Bearspace (2006).
"For all their attacks on artistic traditions, there is a real sense of joy in the act of creation within these works. What the exhibition disparages are the trappings of creativity, the simple act of making is celebrated." David Barrett, Art Monthly 2006

Stag (2002)
|
Utilising modern materials alongside traditional sculpture techniques, he deliberately mixes high-art pomp, vernacular utilitarian objects and hobbyist craft skills.
Images of the embattled artistic soul and other heroic themes of our time are humorously commemorated in foam, wood and metal.

Hand (2005)

Roughly hewn from foam [Hand] hung on a single cord that descended from the ceiling with an index finger, it pointed at all and sundry. Zakiewicz's work appeared dumb, like Hasek's fictional character The Good Soldier Svejk (1921-22), whose acts of stupidity also suggest cunning acts of genius that disrupt everything that is serious. While the process of making is evident in the work, this is soon forgotten when Hand is used to point at something or poke at the back of someone's head. It is a communiqué from Zakiewicz that Hand is something you can have fun with. David Burrows, Untitled magazine, 2007
