The Empty Space (2003 to 2005) is a series of drawings inspired and based on the The Tower of Babel. As a massive civic project, Babel represents a world view in a unified and monolithic state before the present condition of multicultural and linguistic diversity. These drawings incorporate elements from monumental structures from antiquity and mythology and from fictional and art historical spaces such as those described by Borges or da Vinci. This accumulative process focuses on the emotional and psychological effect of space to evoke a place that is autonomous, universal and conscious.

The Empty Space drawings occur within a studio practice while installations and sculptural projects pursuing these themes take place in public projects and exhibition spaces.
