My work settles between the two poles of tension of the internal and the external world. As a human being we live in both. In between the so said objective, measurable world of facts, reason and causality on one side and a majestic inner space of dream, spirit, emotions and imagination on the other side. In my work I search into both: Inquiry for the inner aspects connected to close, meditative observation and perception, which opens a way to decode the poetic language of forms, materials, phenomena, sound and light. How much is the visible outside permeated by the inner, how much of our unconsciousness shines up and can be read in our surrounding world and environment?

In my work the human body is present, either as a picture of a person/portrait/body parts or through objects and installations, which evoke the feeling of presence of a human body through their measurements or pieces of daily life like furniture and utensils. Space is important to me; space between objects, left out space, empty space, space surrounding an object and filled by its expanding

personality; also the space of imagination, association and emotion created by the communication of objects one with another or with the observer. In that sense I see myself in the tradition of pure/traditional sculpture. In my work ‘the other side‘, the realm of dream, unconsciousness and emotion is always present, since this is the source of my work; I develop the pieces in communication of inner and outer world.Novalis said: ‘the interior world is the exterior world that has been raised into secret state.’ To this conclusion I came as well through my own research and study of forms, color, combination of forms and materials. Each form is its own content; form, color and material tell their history and it can be read through close observation and listening. Novalis was a poet of the age of romanticism. I see myself in the tradition of the romantic art, emphasizing the emotional aspect of world in furthest sense. But the process of working is also a form of science, since I try to decode and discover the language of form, material and color through long observation and experiment. My work is process-oriented; in large parts unplanned and determined by play. Forms, colors, sensual and haptical qualities are like sounds. Creating a work of art I therefore often compare to

composing music or writing a poem. In my research I try to come to the point, some clarity, therefore my objects often have minimalist qualities. I see the things I make in the tradition of poetry. For me, any work of creativity, music, literature, film, objects or poetry is a piece of life showing reality and how reality is perceived.
