IPCNY was established in Chelsea in September 2000 as the first and only non-profit institution devoted solely to the exhibition and understanding of fine art prints. IPCNY fosters a climate for enjoyment, examination and serious study of artists' prints from the old master to the contemporary. IPCNY nurtures the growth of new audiences for the visual arts while serving the print community through exhibitions, publications, and educational programs.

MISSION
Conceived to be the first and only non-profit exhibition space, resource and learning center devoted solely to artists' prints, serving the needs of artists, printmakers, educators, publishers, students, collectors and general viewing public. It offers exhibition opportunities for contemporary artists through its New Prints Program which inaugurated the comprehensive program of exhibitions embracing all time periods and cultures, launched in 2000 with Hard Pressed at AXA Gallery and continuing today through our international and thematic exhibitions series.

Artist Talks, a members only event
Scholarly publications and education programs complement these exhibitions. IPCNY actively seeks collaborations with other institutions such as the Museum of the City of New York with the exhibition Industry and Idleness and numerous local universities such as Pratt and NYU with which we have developed a long track record of IPCNY internships. Information services both in the gallery and on line, events for members and the public, and a website document and supplement our exhibitions; visits to local printmaking workshops, art fairs and galleries are arranged for our members. Entrance to the gallery is free, and IPCNY welcomes regular visits from many local universities during the academic year. IPCNY has been described by a New York City artist as the "epicenter of the print world."

IPCNY was chartered by the Board of Regents in 1995. Our first full season of activities was launched in 2000 with Hard Pressed: 600 Years of Prints and Process our Inaugural Exhibition at AXA Gallery in midtown NYC. Curated by David Platzker and Elizabeth Wyckoff, the exhibition included loans from diverse sources including the National Gallery, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art and others. Hard Pressed toured subsequently to Santa Fe, Boise, Idaho and Naples, Florida, introducing new audiences to the subject.  That same fall, IPCNY opened its own space in Chelsea with a juried show of contemporary prints, the first of 44 such New Prints exhibitions which have been recognized by distinguished funders such as the National Endowment for the Arts, NYSCA, DCA, the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and the Greenwall Foundation. Today, nearly 13 years later, we have moved to a new space, shown new work from over 1600 artists, and developed over 70 print exhibitions. In 2007 we added a Sp
