g-mk is dedicated to research, exhibition, documentation and dissemination of information about contemporary visual art practice and its extended field. With its dynamic program of exhibitions, lecturers, presentations, artist and curators exchange and residency program, collaborative projects and publications, it promotes projects that - by using different media and the advantages of new technologies, strategies and innovative models of artistic work - investigate various phenomena of contemporary culture and society: political, ethical and esthetic preoccupations of our here and now.
g-mk sees its role as an active mediator in the communication between artists, ideas and audience, becoming a relevant protagonist whose activities are reflected outside the gallery walls, as much as inside them.

history

galerija miroslav kraljevic was initiated and founded in 1986 by a group of independent curators, artists, critics and art enthusiasts as an independent and non-for-profit institution in the framework of the Citizens Association  of the Arts Club of the workers of the INA company.
The Gallery was named after Miroslav Kraljević, Croatian artist whose innovations exercised a decisive influence on Croatian visual art in the beginning of the 20th century.

From its beginnings the gallery was run by the curator Branko Franceschi and the forming and realization of the gallery’s rich and versatile program has been based on close collaboration of the gallery’s curatorial staff with independent experts in the field (artists, curators and critics). With more than 300 organized exhibitions, performances, happenings, lectures and presentations of local and international artists, Galerija Miroslav Kraljevic has become one of the most important exhibition spaces in Croatia and the region, continuously promoting cutting edge contemporary Croatian art and building links to the international art scene for contemporary Croatian artists as well as artists from the region.

The gallery’s program is supported by the Zagreb City Office for Culture, Croatian Ministry of Culture and Ina Company, as well as local diplomatic representatives, local and international cultural centers and foundations.

The Council of Europe has enlisted g-mk into the Apollonia Guide for Central and Eastern Europe. In 1997 the g-mk established the first non-profit web-site in Croatia that was enlisted in UNESCO’s list of globally relevant cultural resources. In the last decade, g-mk has become one of the most prominent and popular exhibition venues for contemporary art in Croatia and the region.

From 2005 the program is directed by Antonia Majača and a new programation team together with a new advisory board.
This web page has been formed based on the new program focus and concept, simultaniously presenting 20 years of the gallery's history previously presented on www.miroslav-kraljevic.hr
