Since his last exhibition Sacre Nom de Dieu! in 2009, the work of Adam Saks has rigorously developed. Whereas some of his motifs and basic sources of inspiration are recurring in his Oeuvre, his pictorial approach has undergone a radical change: The artist abandoned oil colour and turned towards acrylics, whereby his works gained in spontaneity and freshness "My choice of medium has liberated my artistic working process. it has given me more freedom in choosing motifs, colours and images."
His current works are traversed by this new energy and draw us into a lush and oneiric universe: women's faces, silhouettes of equestrians, characters arisen from legends and comic strips, tattoo motifs and text fragments, collected at random, collide and overlap. Adam Saks usurps the shapes, manipulates symbols and breaks their original meanings with hunger and enthusiasm.
Two elements distinguish the works shown in the exhibition Follow You Follow Me and illustrate quite clearly Adam Saks' quote: "I am a graphic artist who also paints." Saks' motifs are not, strictly speaking, "painted". Only their contours are drawn, positive or negative, however always in deep black. The colour is not simply used as the colouring of an object or a figure, but as a pictorial motif of its own. Saks uses colour fields as construction elements, and like his motifs, he lets them clash and superpose on the canvas surface. Adam Saks certainly emerges as an exceptional colourist. He plays a baroque gamut of different shades of grey and clear - but matt - colours. Betimes, a translucent ribbon of white paint unifies the ensemble to create a vigorous, coherent and extremely original work.
Die Bourouina Gallery freut sich sehr, die zweite Ausstellung des in Berlin lebenden d�nischen K�nstlers Adam Saks zu zeigen.
Seit der Ausstellung Sacre Nom de Dieu! im Jahr 2009 hat sich die Arbeit von Adam Saks radikal weiterentwickelt. Einige seiner Motive und Inspirationsquellen bleiben aus vergangenen Arbeiten vertraut, doch die malerische Vorgehensweise hat eine grundlegende Ver�nderung erfahren: Statt �l benutzt er jetzt Acrylfarbe, wodurch seine Kunst an Spontanit�t, Geschwindigkeit und Frische gewonnen hat. �Die Wahl des Mediums hat meinen k�nstlerischen Werkprozess liberalisiert....Es hat mir wirklich gr��ere Freiheit gegeben in der Wahl meiner Motive, Farben und Bilder (�). 1
Die ausgestellten Arbeiten sind von dieser neuen Energie durchdrungen und lassen uns in ein �ppiges, traumhaftes Universum eintauchen: Frauengesichter, Reiter, Figuren aus Legenden und Comics, Tattoo-Motive und Textfragmente, prallen aufeinander, �berlagern und durchdringen sich. Adam Saks bem�chtigt sich der Formen, hantiert mit Symbolen und bricht mit Lust und Enthusiasmus ihre urspr�ngliche Bedeutung.
Zwei Elemente charakterisieren die Arbeiten der Ausstellung Follow You Follow Me und veranschaulichen sehr deutlich, was Adam Saks selbst dazu sagt: �Ich bin ein Grafikk�nstler, der auch malt� 2. In seinen Bildern sind die Motive nicht im eigentlich Sinne gemalt, sie sind gezeichnete Kontur, Positiv oder Negativ, jedoch immer in tiefem Schwarz. Die Farbe will nicht mehr nur als Kolorit eines Objekts oder einer Figur verstanden werden, sie l�st sich los und bildet eigenst�ndige Formen. Farbfl�chen werden zu Konstruktionselementen und genau wie seine Motive begegnen und �berlagern sie sich auf der Oberfl�che der Leinwand. Adam Saks erweist sich in der Tat als au�ergew�hnlicher Kolorist und spielt hier mit einer barocken Palette von feinen, changierenden Graut�nen und gebrochenen, jedoch leuchtenden Farben, die von einem tiefen Purpur �ber Violett bis Goldocker reichen. Stellenweise vollendet ein durchscheinendes Band wei�er Farbe den Zusammenhang des Ensembles um ein kraftvolles, stimmiges Werk von ausgesprochener Originalit�t zu schaffen.
