Gioved� 21 maggio prometeogallery di Ida Pisani � lieta di annunciare la seconda personale di Santiago Sierra presso i propri spazi di Via Ventura, a distanza di due anni dalla presentazione del progetto Los Anarquistas. Per questa nuova occasione Sierra non presenta materiale di documentazione ma realizza una vera e propria azione: la prima azione concepita per la citt� di Milano e una delle poche che il noto artista abbia realizzato in Italia.
Riconosciuto internazionalmente come uno degli esponenti pi� controversi della scena artistica attuale, Santiago Sierra lavora dalla fine degli anni �90 sulla contraddizione costitutiva delle forme del capitalismo contemporaneo. Tra i primi � come ha scritto Claire Bishop � a rimettere in scena i modi dell�antagonismo mentre da pi� parti veniva enfatizzato il ruolo della relazione e della convivenza, Sierra ha rivendicato da subito una realt� economica e sociale concreta. In questo senso Sierra ha riproposto ogni volta (attraverso un retaggio minimalista) le condizioni di una frontiera estetica, di una ostruzione fisica, di un confine giuridico come rapporto percettivo tra soggetto che vede e oggetto osservato. Anzi il dualismo percettivo che l�estetica modernista ha cercato di superare ritorna in Sierra nelle coppie rinnovate oppressore/oppresso, amico/nemico, incluso/escluso, suddito/sovrano.
Si tratta di un dualismo completamente rinnovato perch�, come sostiene Marco Scotini, il tipo di capitalismo messo in scena da Sierra � quello che ha spostato l�esercizio del potere dal �tempo del lavoro� al �tempo della vita� tutto intero: meglio noto come biocapitalismo. Le vite umane o i corpi che affollano le opere di Sierra sono remunerati per mostrare se stessi o come soggetti inattivi o per prestazioni �al limite� e equivoche. Se fino ad ora l�artista ha mostrato ripetutamente il rapporto tra lavoro e forza-lavoro in azioni divenute subito famose per aver scandalizzato il pubblico, adesso Sierra ha deciso di inaugurare il 2009 concentrando l�attenzione su un altro sistema di dominio. Non pi� il lavoro o l�economia ma il sesso. Ancora corpi, reciprocamente intrappolati, ma ora dentro un altro dispositivo: quello della sessualit�.
Proprio il sesso appare come un punto di passaggio fortemente denso per le relazioni di potere e di assoggettamento: fra donne e uomini, tra giovani e vecchi, tra genitori e figli, tra ordini religiosi e societ� laica, tra educatori e alunni, tra ricchi e poveri, tra amministratori e popolazione. Ma non solo, la sessualizzazione del corpo si mostra come matrice originaria della distribuzione o del disciplinamento del sensibile e come apparato di sottomissione. A gennaio Sierra ha presentato il film di 45 minuti �Los penetrados�, in cui dieci coppie di genere diverso (donne e uomini) e di razza diversa (bianca e nera) realizzano la penetrazione anale in tutte le combinazioni. Se questo � il lavoro che � stato presentato a Madrid, quale sar� l�azione realizzata per Milano?

Thursday 21 May. Prometeogallery di Ida Pisani is pleased to announce the second solo exhibition by Santiago Sierra in its premises in Via Ventura, following on from the Los Anarquistas project presented two years ago. On this new occasion, Sierra will not be presenting documentary material but rather carrying out an authentic action: this is the first action created for the city of Milan and it is one of the few that the celebrated artist has put on in Italy.
Internationally recognised as one of the most controversial names on the present-day art scene, Santiago Sierra has been working since the 1990s on the fundamental contradictions of contemporary capitalism. While from many quarters there has been a stress on the importance of relationships and coexistence, Sierra was one of the first to present forms of antagonism, as Claire Bishop has written, and right from the outset he has sought to adopt a concrete social and economic approach. Taking up a minimalist inheritance, Sierra has constantly proposed an aesthetic frontier � a physical barrier and a juridical borderline � as the perceptive relationship between the subject that sees and the object that is seen. And indeed, the perceptive dualism that Modernist aesthetics has attempted to overcome returns in Sierra in the form of renewed contrasts: oppressor/oppressed, friend/enemy, accepted/excluded, subject/sovereign.
This is a completely revised form of dualism because, as Marco Scotini maintains, the type of capitalism revealed by Sierra is one that has shifted the exercise of power from �work time� to an all-inclusive �life time�: better known as biocapitalism. The human lives and bodies that throng Sierra�s works are paid to show themselves either as idle subjects or for actions that are extreme or equivocal. So far, the artist has repeatedly shown the relationship between work and workforce in actions that have become immediately legendary for the way they scandalise the public, but now Sierra has decided to enter 2009 by focusing his attention on another system of domination. This is no longer work or the economy, but sex. Again we find entangled bodies, but now they are caught up in a different device: that of sexuality.
And it is sex that appears as a powerfully dense passageway for power relationships and subjection: between men and women, young and old, parents and children, religious orders and lay society, teachers and pupils, rich and poor, administrators and citizens. But there is more, for the sexualisation of the body appears as the original template for the distribution or disciplining of sensitivity and as a system of submission. In January, Sierra presented his 45-minute film �Los penetrados�, in which ten couples of different sexes (women and men) and different races (black and white) perform every possible combination of anal penetration. If this is the work that was presented in Madrid, what does he have in mind for Milan?
