3rd Annual NUDE An exhibit of works exploring the uncovered human form Main Gallery and Drawing Room Opening Friday, August 12, 6-9p.m. Exhibit continues: August 13 - September 9, 2011 This year we were excited to renew our invitation to artists to submit works in any media, of any style or genre, (abstract, conceptual, highly realistic, etc.), and of any size, for consideration in Manifest's highly popular annual NUDE, an international competitive exhibit exploring the uncovered human form in current art. In this way our gallery program achieves symmetry with our academic studio pursuits, and makes the age-old practice of working with and from the nude accessible to the general public. It also reveals the many ways artists reflect on the human self - the raw, natural, vulnerable, yet powerful thing we really are... Our several-member jury considered 406 works by 179 artists from 33 states and 14 countries for this exhibit. Twenty-three works by the following 19 artists from 13 states and Germany were selected by our two-part jury/curatorial process for presentation in the gallery and catalog. Four artists are from within 150 miles of Cincinnati, including one Cincinnati artist. NUDE 3 will include sculpture, photography, drawing, and numerous paintings. Along with its playful companion show, the exhibit marks the final free public presentation of Manifest's seventh season. Season 8 will open on September 30th. TOUCH ME! Works of Art You Can Touch Curated by Tim Parsley Parallel Space Gallery An International Exhibit Exploring Works that Invite Physical Interaction Thanks to museology and the inevitable fragility of things conserved, preserved, and stored for posterity, we are conditioned to revere the sanctity of artwork. We take for granted that we must not touch, respect the bullet proof glass, don't step over the line, and no flash photography please. This despite our instinctual nature to use all (or at least many) of our senses to experience new things. Manifest ends its seventh season with a project intended to contradict this conditioning. By offering "Go Ahead... Touch Me!" the gallery invited artists to submit work that is deliberately interactive and touchable. The intimate six-piece presentation offers a playful and introspective experience provided by 5 artists from California, Massachusetts, Ohio, England, and Norway. (One of the artists is from Cincinnati.) Available to the public while supplies last will be free (temporary) tattoos by Nat Martin. Other works include an interactive mapping project by Brad McCombs, an adjustable minimalist painting by Marisa Ferreira, and two surreal and cuddly floor works, one each by Stephanie Robison and Adeline de Monseignat. For this exhibit 74 artists from 28 states and 10 countries submitted 132 works for consideration. Six works by the following 5 artists from California, Massachusetts, Ohio, England, and Norway were selected by our two-part jury/curatorial process for presentation in the gallery and catalog.
