Lisa Yuskavage, 20th April 26th June 2010 Lisa Yuskavages fourth solo show with greengrassi comprises a new series of oil paintings. The works hover between representation and fiction, presenting strange new realities. Yuskavage is known for her depiction of female figures. In these paintings women appear, for the most part alone, in landscape or interior settings. The same subject matter is frequently reworked, building up a strange tension within the exhibition, which mirrors the complex physical and psychological relationships witnessed in the paintings. The scale of the work varies from the expansive 3m wide diptych, Wilderness, to the intimate vignettes of Safety Orange and Ditch, which are less than 25cm square. Lisa Yuskavage lives and works in New York. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout Europe and the United States. Recent solo exhibitions include Museum Tamayo Arte Contempornea in Mexico City, Mexico (2006), the Centre dArt Contemporain in Geneva, Switzerland (2001), and the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2000). Her work is currently on view in Until Now: Collecting the New (1960-2010) at Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Previous group exhibitions include Bad Painting Good Art at Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien in Vienna, Austria (2008); and Diana and Actaeon: Forbidden Glimpse of the Naked Body at Museum Kunst Palast in Dusseldorf, Germany (2008). greengrassi 1a Kempsford Road (off Wincott Street) London SE11 4NU t: +44 (0) 20 7840 9101 f: +44 (0) 20 7840 9102 |
