Shio Kusaka 23 June 2011 to 30 July 2011 Opens Thursday 23rd of June 2011 6.30 to 8.30pm greengrassi is pleased to announce Shio Kusaka’s first exhibition in the UK. The artist will present a series of ceramic sculptures for her solo show at the gallery. Kusaka models ceramic vessels of which no two are the same. Their shapes are simple and usually bottom-heavy or columnar. A minimal choice of palette is enlivened with patterned markings and coloured lines. Though they look utilatarian, this is not why they are made. It is clear that formal considerations are paramount for Kusaka and that there is an exploration through the ceramic medium of these formal concerns. Shio Kusaka was born in Japan in 1972 and currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
