ANDREA LEHMANN Saturday, September 4th, 2010 to Saturday, October 9th, 2010 Aschenbach & Hofland Galleries proudly presents the first solo exhibition of Andrea Lehmann (1975, D�sseldorf) in the Netherlands. The exhibition consists of an installation that takes up the entire gallery constructed out of pieces of d�cor made of paper and cardboard, the most important parts being original paintings and works on paper. It is the third installation in a series titled "Greeneland". Lehman creates installations of paintings, in which she combines eclectic content with painting virtuosity. The visual world Lehmann presents to us is a chaotic jumble of objects, spaces, people and actions with the dynamics of action comics. Greeneland is a direct reference to author, journalist and British secret agent Graham Greene. Just like Greene, Lehmann creates mysterious twilight worlds that make up the setting for research, dreams and miracles. In this third Greeneland, the Geburtstagm�nnchen appear, figures that are half horse, half man. It is these birthday men that make certain images possible, such as a group portrait that can be seen in a large painting of people who have died in childbirth. In the painting the post-mortem pictures of the persons portrayed are painted, just like two Geburtstagm�nnchen. The birthday men are sometimes small, sometimes big, or have long, sharp birthday hats that make them look like unicorns. They are the instigators of many wondrous events. Andrea Lehmann completed her MA studies at the Art Academy of D�sseldorf under Professor Markus L�pertz. Lehmann�s selected exhibitions include The Saatchi Gallery in London, Kunstmuseum M�lheim an der Ruhr, Rubell Family Collection in Miami , Museum Ratingen, Kunstmuseum D�sseldorf and Museum of Glass in Tacoma/Washington. Aschenbach & Hofland Galleries presenteert met trots de eerste solotentoonstelling van Andrea Lehmann (1975 D�sseldorf) in Nederland. De tentoonstelling bestaat uit een installatie die de hele galerie in beslag neemt en is opgebouwd uit decorstukken van papier en karton waarvan de belangrijkste gedeelten originele schilderijen en werken op papier zijn. Het is de derde installatie in een reeks getiteld; Greeneland. Lehmann cre�ert installaties van schilderijen. Hierin combineert ze een eclectische inhoud met een schilderkunstige virtuositeit. De visuele wereld die Lehmann ons presenteert is een chaotische wirwar van voorwerpen, ruimtes, personen en handelingen met de dynamiek van actiestripverhalen. Greeneland is een directe verwijzing naar de schrijver, journalist en brits geheimagent Graham Greene. Net als Greene schept Lehmann mysterieuze, schemerwerelden die het decor zijn voor onderzoek, dromen en wonderen. In deze derde Greeneland verschijnen de Geburtstagm�nnchen, figuren die half paard half mens zijn. Het zijn deze verjaardagsmannetjes die bepaalde beelden mogelijk maken. Zoals op een groot schilderij een groepsportret te zien is van personen die in hun kraambed zijn overleden. Op het schilderij zijn de post mortem foto�s van de geportretteerden geschilderd evenals twee Geburtstagm�nnchen. De verjaardagsmannetjes zijn klein en dan weer groot, of hebben lange scherpe verjaarsmutsen waardoor ze lijken op eenhoorns. Ze zijn de aanstichters van vele wonderlijke gebeurtenissen. Andrea Lehmann studeerde aan de kunstacademie te D�sseldorf bij professor Markus L�pertz. Ze exposeerde onder andere in The Saatchy Gallery in Londen, Kunstmuseum M�lheim an der Ruhr, Rubell Family Collection in Miami, Museum Ratingen, Kunstmuseum D�sseldorf and Museum of Glass in Tacoma/Washington.
