KOEN DELAERE I Only Get Horny When Due Laughs Opening Friday September 7 from 19.00 - 21.00 hours. Gerhard Hofland is pleased to announce Koen Delaere’s I OnLy Get Horny When Due Laughs. An exhibition with 15 new paintings with different theme's. Koen Delaere's approach to painting comes within reach of the performative moment of music. As in musical productions, it is in his works that one perceives a "live" performance. A spontaneity that is reflected throughout a concert. There is a randomness, an improvisation and a controlled chaos. We find traces of these elements in his paintings, as well as the freshness of a live performance. His works live on an extension of the present. Delaere does not paint in the traditional concept, but uses the color matter to create physical surface. Geometric scars and form alteration stemming from frictional force between surfaces that move to precise coordinates. Delaere often uses a method that portrays mirror surfaces of the paintings at the time a piece is created. Work is reflected one against the other, creating a dynamic in his work that signifies the generation of an incompatibility between the floor and surface, including the technical continuity of the painting, its layers within that seek to undo previous layers. The violence of the movement between two paintings scales the integrity that normally characterizes an image. Last year Koen Delaere (1970, Brugge) made various exhibitions in Sao Paulo, Barcelona and Madrid. Also once again he was guest at Autocenter in Berlin together with Marijn van Kreij en Bas van den Hurk and his work was to be seen in the painting exhibition What's Up! in the Dordrechts Museum. CINDY JANSEN - With Love, Photographs and Video At the VerandaOpening Friday September 7 from 19.00 - 21.00 hours. On the 7th of September, the exact date the art season opens, dutch photographer Cindy Jansen will show a selection of photos and videos at Galerie Hofland. It is her first solo show in Amsterdam, and a kick off for the massive attention photography will receive later this month, during the new and promising photo fair UNSEEN. Cindy Jansen’s work differs from many other young photographers as she pushes the borders of this medium into the art of video. Her videos behave like photographs in the sense that she ads an element of time. Her works show Jansen’s eye for detail in the way she explores human relations and our relation to our natural environment. The exhibition WITH LOVE gives a clear overview of Jansen’s talent: she shows portraits, interiors, that each set the viewer on the wrong path. Thanks to her great understanding of human drama she is able to show men and women involved in suggestive, hierarchical relationships, based on surrender, rituals and unconscious behavior. The content of her video landscapes only changes because of the temporary presence of people seeking for superficial pleasure like picnicking, horse riding, walking and launching. The clash between the ephemeral hedonism of day men enjoying their leisure time versus the eternity of nature is strikingly exposed. Her interiors surprise in a different way: At first instance a Turkish brothel looks like a friendly and cosy place, but from a closer view we notice the imperfections that seem to reveal the darker and more vulgar aspects of physical transactions. Cindy Jansen (1976) has shown at gallery MK and at Bob Smit Galerie, both in Rotterdam. In May 2012 her work was on view at Pictura in Dordrecht. At the moment she is preparing a show for gallery The Empire Project in Istanbul, Turkey. Her work will also be shown at the Istanbul Biennial this fall.
