Richard Höglund Hysterical.Sublime.. January 6th - February 11th, 2012 Opening Reception Friday, January 6th 6 - 9 PM Hysterical. Sublime.. brings together work from an ongoing research both for and into the sublime. No longer a notion limited to the grandiose natural experience, the pain pleasure paradox of the sublime is found within the fissures that compromise our constructed quotidiens. If the quintessential abyss is within rather than without? If we are not so much on the edge of the infinite as we are chained to the rock of it’s indescribable epicenter? That which is beyond representation is also contained within our ourselves, and the works in this show compare and contrast this interior with the known codes of the exterior. The madness and the comfort that come from an encounter with the sublime are revisited in a mise en oeuvre of Memory vs. Present, of Analysis vs. Action. The exhibition, which is Höglund’s third will include works on paper, photography, and video. Richard Höglund is a recent graduate of the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Strasbourg, France. He has studied at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. In 2006 he was the recipient of the Prix de la Jeune Création in Paris. Recent shows include The Villa Bernasconi and the MAMCO in Geneva, La Générale in Paris and the National Gallery of Fine Arts in Sofia. Please join us at Dimensions Variable for Endgame No. 1, Performance No. 7 a performance by Richard Höglund. The performance will take place on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 7:00 pm. Dimensions Variable is located at 171 NE 38th Street in the Miami Design District. The performance is designed to place the spectator in a situation in which it becomes increasingly difficult to sit and listen to the reading of important theory-based texts About Gallery Diet: Gallery Diet is a contemporary art gallery located in the Wynwood District of Miami, Florida where it has existed since 2007. The gallery has produced nearly 30 solo and group exhibitions by emerging and under represented artists from around the world. Many of these exhibitions have been documented in hard cover print editions. Represented artists include Kristopher Benedict, Charley Friedman, Christy Gast, Richard Höglund, Fabienne Lasserre,Abby Manock, and Daniel Milewski.
