Allan Otte holder artist talk i galleriet lørdag d. 08.12.2012 kl. 13.

Text in English

At ”Stretching New Land” at Galleri Tom Christoffersen Allan Otte presents a series of works, which are different experiments based on individual rules. Each painting measures 1 square meter but they come in all shapes: circular, square, elliptical, high and wide. The subject matter is displaced as well because Allan Otte comments on the landscape as romantic genre – e.g. a paraphase on a specifik Danish painting from the Golden Age.

Allan Otte values the tactility of painting and continues to explore the relationship between the realisme og the subject matter and its abstract qualities – depending from where and how you look at it. The new works demonstrate a comprehensive play with different approaches to painting, and there is a close exhchange between the subject matter, the format and the manner of painting. A painting of a rainbow, for instance, consists of approx. 36,000 color patches that accumulates as an optical illusion, and in another painting a plowed field is insistingly build up of 171 stripes.

Both the systematic work processes and the aesthetic choices are visible in each painting. We have to do with well-argued pictures, that demonstrates the technical skills and the very different stories that Allan Otte’s production consists of.
