MAX SUDHUES FEAR OF FALLING 05.06. � 17.07.2010 ER�FFNUNG: SAMSTAG, 05.06.2010, 18-21 UHR Wir freuen uns, Ihnen unsere n�chste Ausstellung anzuk�ndigen. Wir zeigen in der zweiten Einzelausstellung des in Berlin lebenden K�nstlers Max Sudhues unter dem Titel �Fear of Falling� neuere und neueste Arbeiten. Dieser Titel bezieht sich spielerisch-ironisch auf die neurotische Furcht, nach einem erlittenen Sturz immer wieder zu st�rzen oder fallen zu m�ssen. Mit Loops aus im Alltag "gefundenen" und dann minimal digital verfremdeten Videoaufnahmen untersucht Sudhues die formalen Eigenschaften von Alltagssituationen und transformiert beil�ufige Geschehnisse (defekte, wasserspeiende Rohre auf einer Baustelle, eine ankernde Plattform im Hamburger Hafen) in kleine Erz�hlungen �ber menschliches Aufreiben, von Anziehung und Absto�ung. In Installationen und Projektionsarbeiten aus schattenhaft angestrahlten Gegenst�nden entwirft der K�nstler allegorische, zum Teil bewegte Bildwelten, die, obwohl der Mensch nicht anwesend ist, doch immer auf ihn, sein Handeln und seine Ma�st�be im Spannungsfeld zwischen Emotion, Technik und Natur verweisen. In seinen Arbeiten �berpr�ft Max Sudhues einfachste Dinge auf Fl�che, Form und Struktur - und dar�ber hinaus durch das Zusammenbringen mit scheinbar ausgedienten Techniken der Licht-Projektion (wie Oberlicht- und Diaprojektoren) auf neue inhaltliche Zusammenh�nge: �brig gebliebene Orangen- und Zitronennetze, aber auch Gummimatten und Plastikhalbkugeln wollen in neuer Kombination pl�tzlich raumgreifende Geschichten erz�hlen. Im Kontrast zu den bescheidenen, minimalen Mitteln, dem scheinbaren Nichts, dem Unbeachteten und Weggeworfenen, wachsen so projizierte Sinn-Bilder aus Licht, Material und dessen Schatten, immer raumbezogen inszeniert. "Auf den Betrachter, der sich in der Raum einnehmenden Arbeit dem Spiel zwischen Licht und Schatten hingibt, springt ein Funke Poesie �ber, obwohl die Mittel dieses Spiels � Oberlichtprojektor, Digitalprojektor und Alltagsobjekt � auff�llig pr�sentiert und genauso sichtbar sind wie die Projektionen selbst. Herstellung und Wahrnehmung, Konstruktion und Dekonstruktion, Illusion und Desillusion gehen als integrale Bestandteile aller Arbeiten Sudhues� eine spannungsreiche Wechselbeziehung ein. (...) Mit seinen multiplen Bedeutungsebenen und visuellen �berraschungen ist der collagierte Projektionsparcours von Max Sudhues als APPROXIMATELY INFINITE UNIVERSE, als ann�hernd unendliches Universum angelegt, wie Yoko Ono es 1973 besungen hat und wie eine seiner j�ngsten Arbeiten betitelt ist." (Sara Stehr) MAX SUDUES FEAR OF FALLING 05.06. � 17.07.2010 OPENING RECEPTION: SATURDAY, 5th, JUNE 2010, 6 to 9 pm We take great pleasure in announcing our next exhibition. In a second solo exhibition called Fear of Falling, we will be showing both recent and the very newest works by Max Sudhues, an artist who lives in Berlin. The title is a playful, and playfully ironic, reference to the neurotic fear we have of falling again after we have already fallen once. Using Loops of �found� video tape recordings of everyday occurrences, which he then alienates minimally using digital means, Sudhues examines the formal characteristics of everyday situations and transforms random events (defective pipes spewing water at a construction site, a platform anchored in Hamburg Harbor) into small stories of human wear and tear, of attraction and repulsion. In installations and projection works consisting of objects lit up to enhance their shadows, the artist comes up with allegorical, sometimes stirring worlds of pictures which, though man is absent from them, nevertheless indicate his actions and his standards in a field of tension spanning emotion, technology and nature. In his works, Max Sudhues examines the simplest of things with respect to their surface, form and structure � and, what is more, checks them for new correlations of content by bringing them together with the techniques of lightprojection long thought to be outmoded (such as overhead and slide projections): Netting left over from oranges and lemons, but also rubber mats and halves of plastic eggs suddenly want to tell their own spatial stories in new combinations. In this way, and in contrast to the modest, minimal means of what seems to be nothing, neglected things, and things that have been discarded, projections of meaningful(l) pictures and symbols made of light, material and their shadows now grow, always staged in reference to the surrounding space. "To the viewer, who surrenders himself to the interplay between and light and shadows in this space-dominating work, a spark of poetry comes across, although the means of this interplay � the overhead projector, digital projector, and everyday object � are strikingly present and just as visible as the projections themselves. As integral components of all of Sudhues�s works, production and perception, construction and deconstruction, illusion and disillusion enter into an exciting interrelationship. (�) With its multiple levels of meaning and visual surprises, Max Sudhues�s collaged course of projections has been conceived as an APPROXIMATELY INFINITE UNIVERSE, as Yoko Ono once sang of it in 1973, as one of the artist�s most recent works is called.
