Daniel Lergon: POTENTIAL EISEN September 06 – October 18, 2013 Opening reception: Friday, September 06, 2013, 6-9 pm. On the occasion of this year’s DUESSELDORF COLOGNE OPEN we are very delighted to present the gallery’s fifth solo exhibition POTENTIAL EISEN by Daniel Lergon. The Berlin based painter Daniel Lergon (b. 1978) shows paintings and drawings of his latest body of work. Powdered and neutrally bound iron on canvas and paper functions as the work’s base coat. The iron particles on the painting’s surface oxidate by applying acidified water and therefore determine the modulation of form and color. The potential of the painting’s surface is chemically aroused, unlike in his earlier work series on fluorescent or retro reflective material that was physically changed by applying transparent lacquer. As then light played a major and form giving role, now the process of pictorial invention is made visible in different levels of materiality. The charged material and the artist’s response to it influence the pictorial invention. On Saturday, October 19 th we will be opening our next exhibition irresistible non-solution by Dutch artist Nelleke Beltjens. Furthermore we are happy to again participate in this year’s NADA MIAMI December 6th to 9 th, 2013 and Art Los Angeles Contemporary from January 30th to February 2nd , 2014. - Wir freuen uns, im Rahmen des diesjährigen DUESSELDORF COLOGNE OPEN, Daniel Lergons vierte Einzelausstellung in unseren Räumen präsentieren zu können. Der in Berlin lebende Maler Daniel Lergon (*1978) zeigt in seiner Einzelausstellung POTENTIAL EISEN in Köln Arbeiten aus seiner jüngst entstandenen Werkserie. Mit pulverisiertem, neutral gebundenem Eisen beschichtete Leinwände und Papier dienen als Malgrund. Die Eisenpartikel auf der Bildoberfläche oxidieren durch das Auftragen angesäuerten Wassers und bestimmen so die Modulation der Form und Farbe - die Entstehung des Bildes - mit. Das der Maloberfläche innewohnende „Potential“ wird dabei chemisch geweckt, anders als bei Lergons vorherigen Serien auf z.B. fluoreszierenden oder retroreflexiven Geweben, die mit transparentem Lack bemalt, also physikalisch verändert wurden. Spielte hier Licht eine formgebende Rolle, werden nun Mal-und Bildfindungsprozesse auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen von Stofflichkeit sichtbar. Das aufgeladene Material und die Reaktion des Malers hierauf beeinflussen den Malprozess. Am Samstag, den 19. Oktober 2013 eröffnen wir unsere nächste Ausstellung irresistible non-solution der niederländischen Zeichnerin Nelleke Beltjens. Außerdem freuen wir uns, auch in diesem Jahr unsere erneute Teilnahme an der NADA MIAMI vom 06. – 09. Dezember 2013 und der Art Los Angeles Contemporary vom 30. Januar bis 02.
