IVAN MOUDOV The Glory Hole Vernissage samedi 5 mai 2012 de 16h à 21H Opening saturday 5th May from 4pm to 9pm05.05.12 | 16.06.12 Ivan Moudov, artiste inclassable, est connu pour ses actions artistiques qui se confrontent, souvent avec une bonne dose d'humour, à toute forme d'autorité. Né en 1975 à Sofia, il est l'un des artistes les plus influents de la nouvelle scène contemporaine bulgare. Ses oeuvres combinent un sens fort de l'absurdité, une habilité à user de l'espace ainsi qu'une remise en cause, quasi permanente, des valeurs régissant son environnement sociopolitique et artistique. A l'occasion de sa deuxième exposition au sein de la galerie Alberta Pane, Ivan Moudov présente un projet double intitulé The Glory Hole, du nom du dispositif né dans la culture porno des années 1970. Le dessein de l'artiste est de partager l'espace de la galerie en deux au moyen d'un mur spécialement construit pour l'occasion, percé en son centre par un vide circulaire de 8 cm. D'un côté, est présente un show minimaliste dévoilant très peu d'oeuvres ; de l'autre, l'espace est occupé par un grand nombre de pièces issues de techniques diverses - vidéo, photographie, objet, installation -, sorte de mini rétrospective des travaux de l'artiste entre 2003 et 2012. Le mur, pièce centrale de l'exposition, matérialise la frontière entre deux conceptions d'exposition radicalement opposées, l'une épurée, l'autre (sur)chargée. En se plaçant devant le trou, le visiteur pourra observer mais non toucher, prenant ainsi la place du voyeur qui ne veut pas être vu. Après NON, exposition réalisée en duo avec Nemanja Cvijanovic en 2010 à la galerie Alberta Pane, au sein de laquelle il avait modifié la poignée de la porte d'entrée, enfermant ainsi les visiteurs à l'intérieur, lvan Moudov intervient à nouveau directement dans l'espace avec une oeuvre intitulée Fresh Window, impliquant la participation active des membres de la galerie qui devront veiller à ce que la peinture de la fenêtre reste toujours bien fraîche. S'associant de concert aux notions de « less is more » et de « more is more », Ivan Moudov nous livre sa réflexion sur la place de l'oeuvre dans l'exposition et sur le point de vue ambivalent du regardeur, qui devient acteur malgré lui dans une mise en scène tissée l'artiste lui-même. Jouant les rôles de créateur, de curateur et de collectionneur, Ivan Moudov tente de mettre en évidence les conventions qui régissent l'art contemporain, son exposition et son marché, afin de mieux les déstabiliser. - Ivan Moudov is an unclassifiable artist, known for his artistic actions that confront - often with a sense of humour - all forms of authority. Born in Sofia in 1975, he is one of the most influential artists of the new Bulgarian art scene. His work contains a strong sense of the absurd, with an ability to use space and challenge, quasi-permanently, the values that govern his social, political and artistic environments. For his second exhibition at Alberta Pane Gallery, Ivan Moudov presents a project in two parts, The Glory Hole a title inspired by a device born in the 1970s in porno culture. The gallery will be split in two by a wall made specifically for the exhibition, interrupted at its centre by an empty circle of 8 cm. On one side, Moudov presents a minimalist show of only a few pieces; on the other, the viewer will find a space occupied by many works of all different techniques - video, photography, object and installation - this side functioning as a sort of mini-retrospective to his work made between 2003 and 2012. The wall, a central piece to the exhibition, finds itself at the border between two radically different concepts of the exhibition. When standing in the center of the gallery at the circle, the viewer is able to see the exhibition, playing the part of the voyeur who sees without being seen. In 2010, Moudov and Nemanja Cvijanovic worked together to present NON an exhibition at Alberta Pane Gallery where Moudov changed the door handle to the entrance of the gallery in order to lock its visitors inside. Moudov continues to use space creatively in his new work Fresh Window, which again demands the active participation of the gallery staff. Combining the two notions of "less is more"and "more is more",� Ivan Moudov gives us his reflection through the function of the art piece in the exhibition, as well as through the visitor point of view, actor in a stage created by the artist himself. Taking the different roles of artist, curator and collector, Ivan Moudov attempts to expose the conventions that govern the contemporary art world and its market, and through this artistic exploration, disrupt its.
