JAVIER PIVIDAL �Fragments of a discourse� Opening: Saturday 19th December 2009, 20.00 h Exhibition: From 19th December 2009 to 20th February 2010 F�cares Gallery is pleased to introduce the exhibition by Javier Pividal (Cartagena, 1971) at its space in Almagro, from 19th December 2009 to 20th February 2010. The project Fragments of a discourse is made up of graphic media, photography and video pieces. This project has as a referent the essay by Roland Barthes entitled A Lover�s Discourse: Fragments (1977), an essential work to tackle the foundations of the subject and his questioning of love as a fact. Javier Pividal�s work is arranged from its beginnings around questions related to the construction of identity. The body and its images, the concept of portrait, the skin and somatisations and topics concerning privacy and affections are the tools used in the formation � an impossible formation � of an individual �subject�: restless and elusive, residual, incomplete. For Pividal, the love discourse is the language of 'solitude': concerning �an other�, it is nonetheless exclusively created by the individual himself. In the photograph titled Dissection, a trestle table appears on which a body lies covered with a body bag with the golden foil outwards and openwork in the shape of dry autumn leaves. The suggested relationship among these elements is repeated in other pieces � for instance, those that are about the gaze as the minimum unit of love�s language, and about the need to encounter oneself in (the gaze of) �the other one�. His Anonyms, using a collage technique, recover and extract ideas about the writing on desire based on Barthes�s essay, whereas the video pieces certainly form the nucleus of this exhibition. In Engulfing, a nude body floating on the water heralds the first entry in Barthes�s book: �I am engulfed, I succumb,� and in Hiroshima, a shadowy gaze implacably stares at us while the audio recording recites a sentence out of Marguerite Duras�s script for the film Hiroshima, mon amour (Alain Resnais, 1959). This project was carried out during 2008 in Paris thanks to a grant from CAM Plastic Arts Collection. Javier Pividal has a Degree in Fine Arts and a Master�s Degree in Museology from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Rub�n Fern�ndez-Costa JAVIER PIVIDAL �Fragmentos de un discurso� Inauguraci�n: s�bado 19 de diciembre de 2009 / 20h Exposici�n: del 19 de diciembre de 2009 al 20 de febrero de 2010 La galer�a F�cares se complace en presentar la exposici�n de Javier Pividal (Cartagena, 1971), en su espacio de Almagro, del 19 de diciembre de 2009 al 20 de febrero de 2010. El proyecto Fragmentos de un discurso se compone de piezas realizadas en soportes gr�ficos, fotograf�a y v�deo. Este proyecto toma como referente el ensayo de Roland Barthes titulado Fragmentos de un discurso amoroso (1977), una obra imprescindible a la hora de abordar la cimentaci�n del sujeto y su cuestionamiento frente al hecho de lo amoroso. El trabajo de Javier Pividal se articula desde sus inicios en torno a la problem�tica de la construcci�n de la identidad. El cuerpo y sus im�genes, el concepto de retrato, la piel y los somatismos y las cuestiones referidas a la intimidad y los afectos son las herramientas utilizadas en la conformaci�n -imposible- de un individuo 'sujeto', inquieto e inasible, residual, incompleto. Para Pividal, el discurso de lo amoroso es el de la 'solitude', est� referido a 'un otro' pero es creado exclusivamente por el propio sujeto. En la fotograf�a titulada Disecci�n, aparece una mesa de caballete sobre la cual yace un cuerpo cubierto por una s�bana t�rmica con el lado dorado hacia el exterior y calado con forma de hojas oto�ales secas. La relaci�n de sugerencia de estos elementos se repite en otras piezas, en las que se habla, por ejemplo, de la mirada como unidad m�nima del discurso amoroso y de la necesidad de encontrarse en (la mirada de) el 'otro'. Sus An�nimos, realizados en t�cnica de collage, recuperan y extraen ideas sobre la escritura del deseo a partir del ensayo barthesiano, mientras que las piezas de v�deo componen sin duda el n�cleo de esta muestra. En Abismarse, un cuerpo desnudo que flota en el agua nos anuncia la primera entrada del libro de Barthes: �Me abismo, sucumbo�, mientras que en Hiroshima, una mirada ensombrecida nos contempla implacable mientras el audio recita una frase extra�da del gui�n de Marguerite Duras para la pel�cula Hiroshima, mon amour (Alain Resnais, 1959). Este proyecto fue realizado durante 2008 en Par�s gracias a la obtenci�n de una beca CAM Colecci�n de Artes Pl�sticas. Javier Pividal es licenciado en Bellas Artes y M�ster en Museolog�a por la Universidad Polit�cnica de Valencia. Rub�n Fern�ndez-Costa |
