The particular way to reproduce nature has characterized the artist's work for nearly 40 years. 45 large scale, colourful pop pansies - each one unique - will be shown in the exhibition DAS PARLAMENT, alongside man-sized meadow flower sculptures, and an urban planning model. For Thomas Stimm creating large sculptures has always been his original and ongoing aspiration. After the first large-scaled papier-m�ch� try-outs at the beginning of the 70s, he decided to focus on smaller sculptures. 1980 was the start for his clay series: idylls, landscapes, everyday situations with humans �en miniature�. From the 90s, the artist began with his pasture-, fruit-, blossom-, and flower sculptures. These plants were a particular challenge to again venture on to oversized scales. Thomas Stimm sees these meadow flowers (crowfoots) - first shown in this exhibition - as �stela�, truly classic, sculptural forms. The sculptures have become part of the public space: 2008 aluminium-cast, larger-than-life and colourfully painted, in front of the Museum Moderner Kunst Vienna; 2009 Skulpturenpark Cologne; 2010 within the project "publicart Nieder�sterreich", H�ttendorf. �Terranian Dot, a model for urban planning (originally designed for Berlin) is conceived as a planetarian meeting point for terranians. In the very center of the plaza would be a huge sculpture which embodies the sun, a sculpture of 20-meters height with ten sunrays. One of these sunrays holds planet Earth which represents our �home� in space. Based on their thorough experience and singular approach on the medium drawing, Tex Rubinowitz (until September 2010) and Dan Perjvoschi (from October 2010) will present artists who work with drawing in their very own way. |
