Asta Gr�ting Familienwerkb�nke The fourteeen Familienwerkb�nke (family work benches) which Asta Gr�ting has brought in formation at gallery carlier | gebauer, open up the idea of the family as much as that of the work for reconsideration. The objects document thirteen families, prehistories of the artists, whose parents handed over their work benches for this exhibition, while at the same time the exhibition assembles a new family, the elective affinities of Gr�ting herself, who asked only those close to her, either personally or artistically, to contribute. Within the formation of these work benches the question of art�s alleged origin in the crafts returns, which Gr�ting answers counter-intuitively: In conjoining the Ikea table at which a mother, an assembly-line worker, wrote poems, with the working table, at which an aerotechnique physicist reconstructed old models of ships, all of these actions in retrospect are handed over to be reconsidered as crafts through their reformulations in the children�s work.
