Two exhibitions opening at blank projects in October: Hoist - Jared Ginsburg & Falsework - Kyle Morland Opening: Thursday 13 October 2011 at 18:00 Exhibitions close 29 October. Hoist - Jared Ginsburg A variable installation by Jared Ginsburg where selected objects will hang successively within the gallery space, suspended by a cable and a winch. Facilitated by a movement and a rule, Hoist serves to relieve each object of its utility, jogging familiar associations and prompting an alternate engagement. The objects brought into the gallery space will be collected over the month of October as residue from the Proposal Project, where a group of artists and curators have been invited to perform and materialize ideas over 24-hour periods at a shared artists-studio nearby the gallery. Jared Ginsburg b. 1985, Cape Town, South Africa. BFA, University of Cape Town (2010). Currently works in Cape Town. Falsework - Kyle Morland A site-specific spatial intervention by Kyle Morland featuring a temporary structure poised within the back gallery space. Playing on a sense of form and scale, Falsework II (2011) borrows an aesthetic of supporting structures in order to hold components in place until its construction is sufficiently advanced to support itself. The function of its original form, now changed through scale and placement. Kyle Morland b.1986, in Johannesburg, South Africa. Works and lives in Cape Town, South Africa.
