Out of Context: Female Artists from Germany Preview - Thursday November 22, 2012 from 6-9pm Exhibition - November 23 - December 22 Heike Jobst, Regina Nieke, Frauke Wilken Beers.Lambert Contemporary presents painter Regina Nieke, sculptor Frauke Wilken, and multidisciplinary artist Heike Jobst in 'Out of Context: Female Artists from Germany', an exhibition that offers commentary related to a political address of the body as a site of repression/expression, response, and metonymy of fantasy and historical reference. Each of the German-born, raised, and based artists (Nieke hails from Berlin, Wilken from Cologne, and Jobst from Munich) present the body as a porous site of interpretation, but also operate an artistic practice that perhaps peripherally comments on whether there fails to exist a historical canon of work from Germany that incorporates the female artist? And if so, what this means for the contemporary, female German artist hailing from this geographical, political, and artistic context - both contemporary and historical. http://beerslambert.com/exhibition/germany Beers.Lambert Contemporary 1 Baldwin Street London, EC1V 9NU Gallery open Tuesday to Saturday, 11-6pm www.beerslambert.com [email protected] +44 (0)207 502 9078 +44 (0)78 1703 1766 Take Exit #8 from Old Street Station, off City Road. |
