Pablo Rasgado Monochromatic Muralism Opening September 12, 2012, 6-9 pm Opening hours: Tuesday - Saturday 12 - 6 pm Arratia Beer is pleased to present Monochromatic Muralism Pablo Rasgado’s first solo exhibition in Germany. A maze-like structure which occupies the entire gallery room, Monochromatic Muralism is an installation built out of drywallpanels recuperated from several museums and exhibition spaces in Berlin. In Monochromatic Muralism fragments of walls leftover from exhibitions at Kunst Werke, Hamburger Bahnhof, the Berlin Biennial and the Deutsches Historisches Museum have beenreconfigured by the artist into two body of works: On one hand, a group of site specific sculptures which situate themselves betweenthe boundariesof the architectonic and the pictorial, and on the other, a series of flat rectangular formats, which in scale andcomposition referenceabstract paintings. Having originally been used to create three-dimensional spaces, Rasgado’s two-dimensionalre-structuring of thefound drywall performs an ¨unfolding¨ of the previous temporary architecture; "a large-scale, origami in reverse”. Pablo Rasgado (born in 1984 Jalisco, Mexico) lives and works in Mexico City. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art,Mexico City (2012), Colección Jumex, Mexico (2011), La Chambre Blanche, Quebec (2011), Museo Experimental El Eco, Mexico City (2011),Hessel Museum of Art & Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, NY (2010) among other venues.
