"BÖSE BLUMEN" December 15, 2012 - January 26, 2013 The power of flowers to seduce and move the onlooker prevalent in every culture. Deeply rooted in visual art history flower symbology embraces every facet of human emotion from romantic love, to decadence, wealth and misery. Generations of artists have been fascinated by flowers endless evocative imagery and morphology. The history of flower art includes the seventeenth century Dutch masters who used flowers to show the transient nature of life and fleetingness of time al well as the decorative excess and frivolity of Baroque and Rococo flower pieces and the flamboyance of Andy Warhol's prints. In our post-Freudian society, it is salutary that the not so humble flower piece continues to exert its enduring magic and provide the inspiration for new ways of interpreting and transforming its power to move one. In the blooming garden at DIEHL gallery, flowers by our artists: Martin Assig, Sergey Bratkov, Olga Chernysheva, Frauke Eigen, Simon English, Thomas Florschuetz, and guest artists Andrea Baumgartl, Georg Dokoupil and Christoph Steinmeyer. We also present a 17th century vanitas still life by C.N. Gysbrechts from the Thomas Rusche S collection.
