Galerie Urs Meile Lucerne is pleased to host together with the Shelter Foundation a benefit groupexhibition of more than twenty prints and photographs by a diverse group of artists who have donated works for sale.

The Shelter Foundation was founded by Alexander und Silke von Berswordt-Wallrabe in Basel, Switzerland in February 2001. It has the intention to collect donations for the victims of procuration and prostitution with the help of artists and to transfer these to charity projects such as safe houses (shelters) in Bosnia and Kosovo. In these shelters women who were forced to prostitution shall be given medical, psychological, bureaucratic and legal aid. Whereas the economically weaker countries in Eastern Europe (e.g. Albania) remain in the focus of the foundation, projects in other crisis regions such as Africa are also supported.

In addition to this, the Shelter Foundation aims to make the international problem of procuration more and more a public issue and to search for opportunities on a social-political level in order to fight this form of modern slavery. In this respect, the cooperation with other benefit organizations and international institutions is aspired. Detailed information on past and on-going projects can be found at www.shelter-foundation.org.

The donations are collected with the support by artists such as Wolfgang Bellwinkel, Lucinda Devlin, Ger van Elk, Thomas Florschuetz, Kees de Goede, Gotthard Graubner, Mary Heilmann, Candida Höfer, Evelyn Hofer, Lee Ufan, François Morellet, Holger Mühlenbeck, Alfredo Álvarez Plàgaro, Dirk Reinartz, Boris Savelev, Richard Serra, Günther Uecker and Jan Wawrzyniak who have donated works for sale with all proceeds to go to the Shelter Foundation.
