David Fokos: New Work Lizabeth Eva Rossof: Stimulus Package
The Kopeikin Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by San Diego based photographer David Fokos. This is Fokos fourth exhibition at the gallery, the last of which was in 2005. The exhibition will open on Saturday, April 25th and continue through May 30th. On Saturday, April 25th there will be a reception with the artist from 6:00 9:00. The Gallery is located at 8810 Melrose Avenue (at Robertson Blvd.) in West Hollywoods Art and Design district. It is free and open to the public.
Using long exposures, ranging from 20 seconds to 60 minutes, Fokos works with the cameras unique ability to average time in order to examine and understand the mechanisms of human perception and to reconcile peoples differing subjective and objective views of the world. With this series of images Fokos uses the camera as a scientific instrument, the way a biologist might use a microscope or an astronomer a telescope, to reveal what is felt but often unseen.
Fokos believes our impression of the world is a composite of many events. For example, your impression of people you know is not a snapshot of the first time you saw that person, but rather a portrait you have assembled from many separate moments. Its the same with our impression of the landscape. When a person describes how they feel about a particular landscape they are often not speaking of a specific moment but to the underlying, fundamental form of that landscape; its expansiveness and perhaps the strong line of the horizon. This is what Fokos work is about, the underlying, fundamental form.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11AM to 6PM. For details call the Gallery at 310-385-5894. Or go to our website: kopeikingallery.com

Rossof uses Braille as a metaphor to create work that explores the inability to discern the truth from fiction in American Politics, Economy and Sexuality. Addressing the confusion felt in American society in the wake of eight years of misguiding information from those in power.
Lizabeth is research-based visual artist. She is most interested in the human response to, and interpretation of data; most specifically personal data and data pertaining to human rights. Her artworks are experiments; they are projects and investigations. When the outcomes are displayed, they are most often delivered as digital video, prints, photography and drawing; the work, however, can be contextualized as public happenings, interventions or satirical espionage.
Lizabeth Eva Rossof (b 1973) was born in Texas and raised in Chicago. During her childhood, Lizabeth was surrounded by the darkly political artworks of the underground Eastern European artist handled by her art dealer 'grandparents' Jacques and Anne Baruch. Lizabeth has been the recipient of many prestigious academic awards including the Thomas J Watson Award and the Jacob K Javits Award, as well as several artist honors including The San Francisco Art Commissions Murphy Award, C5s Gran Prix at ISEA 2006, and exhibition in Takashi Murakamis GEISAI Miami. Lizabeths artwork has been exhibited in Berlin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Miami, New York, Oaxaca, Osaka, and Moscow.
