We extend an invitation to discover yourself and the world around you in a body of images. Images that are at once confrontational yet inviting, where certainty and confusion are simultaneously displayed in an unlikely environment you will want to call surreal. Do not be surprised however, if you find is not what you set out to discover. Mike Weiss Gallery is pleased to announce Runyon Canyon, our first exhibition featuring the work of Los Angeles based artist Christian Vincent.

Possessing the rare sensibility to truly observe people and their interactions with the world that surrounds them, Christian Vincent is able to pull clichd reflections of our societal norms and at once represent them through a highly scrutinized lens. Subsisting at such a dark point in our timeline, it is far from accurate to assume any message portrayed in these staged works, where every object is a symbol and every interaction a metaphor, will be immediate and clear even to the most observant eye as what the artist intended is certainly not what the viewer will see.

A far shift from his last body of work, this language of censure rather than celebration is novel for the artist. Directly from Vincent's mind's eye, an ambiguous and wounded cast of characters is flawlessly portrayed with the play on perspective, bright colors and patterns heightening the effectiveness with which the viewer is plucked from our everyday environment and placed into the reflection created by Christian Vincent.

Vincent completed his studies at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, and has since then been broadly exhibiting throughout the United States.
